For about four years now I have been eating as healthy as I can. I have completely changed my diet and eating habits. I shop at the Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s and buy mostly organic food at regular grocery stores. Organic foods are not sprayed with pesticides, do not contain dangerous chemicals or are injected with hormones. The reason for my change in diet is due to hearing about so many diseases such as cancer and other ailments. Recently, I have heard a number of doctors on television talk about which foods are good to eat and which ones are best to avoid. Almost every doctor will agree that people today are sick because of what they are eating.
Foods containing partially hydrogenated oils should be avoided. This is an ingredient that is really not needed. Many food manufacturers are doing away with this. This can be just as bad as having too much saturated fat or cholesterol build up, because this clogs your arteries and can block blood from flowing the proper way. We all know that this can lead to a heart attack or stroke. You are doing yourself a big favor by avoiding products that contain this.
High fructose corn syrup should also be avoided. This is a refined sugar that goes through a process. You are much better off with sugar in the raw, which goes through much less of a process, or honey. Too much of this corn syrup can cause diabetes also. Plenty of drinks contain this ingredient which leads me to the next product of soda. Soda is filled with sugar and corn syrup. If you like the taste of soda, you can buy healthy brands without corn syrup at Trader Joe’s or the Whole Foods Market. They are delicious and you can’t tell the difference. They are made with organic sugar or sugar in the raw. We need about 6 – 8 glasses of water each day to stay healthy. A glass of orange juice is very beneficial every morning with breakfast because it contains Vitamin C. Also if you are going to drink other types of juices, 100% all natural juice with no added sugars are the best.
Hotdogs is another type of food that should be avoided. Many brands contain nitrates and nitrites which have been known to cause cancer. There are natural organic brands like Applegate Farm that sell good quality hotdogs. Luncheon meats also contain nitrates and nitrites. There are brands without these ingredients that are much healthier for you. Applegate Farm also makes luncheon meats. Meats that you buy in general should be organic. The ones that are not organic are injected with hormones. These hormones are known to cause problems in people such as excessive hair growth or more serious conditions. Dairy products such as milk and eggs should also be organic. These products otherwise are also injected with hormones. Nothing than butter itself is best to eat. All other imitations are not good and contain tons of toxins.
We have been told since we were kids that fruits and vegetables are the best things to eat. Fruits with thick skins such as a banana, doesn’t have to be necessarily organic. The pesticides can’t penetrate through the thick skin.
Oatmeal is a food that naturally lowers cholesterol without the use of harmful drugs. My grandmother who is 93, has a very high HDL cholesterol level of 93. Having a high HDL flushes out the bad cholesterol. She eats oatmeal almost every day, so there is plenty of truth to this. Cheerios has also been known to lower cholesterol since it contains oats.
Whole wheat bread and pasta are the healthiest to eat. Be sure to read labels so you are not buying bleached flour. That is the worst thing for you. Anything that is bleached is done so with a chemical. That chemical goes right into your body when you eat that particular food. These food chemicals are known to cause plenty of problems.
Finally, you can enjoy desserts too that are made with organic products. They are just as delicious from the cakes to the ice cream sandwiches. Conventional desserts contain tons of chemicals. Once I had heard that a certain brand of ice cream had a chemical that is used in paint.
There is so much that can be said on this topic. People today are very health conscience and we know so much more than we did years ago. I wish we knew years ago what we know today. When I look back at my eating habits from years ago, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. Although some diseases are hereditary, if people would just eat right, there would be less diseases and sicknesses.
