Gran Turismo 4 is a fun game, but it a bit too challenging for the average gamer. Gran Turismo 4 is called “the Real Driving Simulator.” If driving is this difficult, I never want to have to do it!
So let’s talk about graphics first. These are the best graphics of any racing game I have yet seen on the PS2. The cars are almost real, they are so lifelike. The tracks are also so realistic, it feels like-that is what you would see if you were a driver in NASCAR. I really love the graphics in this game, and the many different camera options just increase this game’s grade against other racing games.
Next, let’s move on to Gran Turismo 4‘s greatest feature. This feature is that there are over 650 cars to race with! Let me say that again. Six Hundred and 50 cars!! That is far and away the most cards in any racing game ever. Gran Turismo has cars from the last century, all the way up through about 2004 (when the game came out). There is everything from Mini-Coopers to Ferraris (which are unlockable, or course). This is what truly makes the game unique to all other racing games I have played. This is the first time I have ever seen so many cars in the same place at the same time. You have the ability to pick from literally any car from any country. Italy, France, Spain, China, Japan! You name it, you can drive it! No other game in the history of gaming has ever even come close to this many vehicles. This game must have taken literally years to make, considering each car has to be designed by itself. There is no algorithm to just make 650 cars. Each one has to be made by a person!
Finally, there is the gameplay. This is the one reason Gran Turismo 4 lacks, compared to other games. It is SO difficult. My brother, who is a gaming STAR can not win on any of the tracks except for the circle or oval ones. Any track that has the ability to go off of the road, you will end up off of the road. Unless you drive NASCAR, this game is going to be extremely difficult for you to play.
If you like games that will take you 10 years to get even remotely good at this is for you, if not, I would pick another game. This one is really incredibly difficult. I would rate this game a 7 out of 10. The seven is for the controls and the great amount of cars. The 3 points left over is for he game’s extreme and utter difficulty. If you like succeeding at video games, and are not frustrated by losing race after race, this tame will be fine for you. You will love this one.
If not, I would advise a different choice of racing game. You seem like more of a Mario Kart Person. This game is a lot of fun. You can pick up a copy for about $30 on eBay and about $35 dollars at a store.
