Looking for a Christmas gift for that ‘hard-to-find’ woman in your life’? Christmas gift cards are always a big hit for women. They love to shop, they love to look, and (let’s not beat around the bush) they love to buy. In today’s times of recession and poor economy, a gift card is actually a welcome gift for many. It allows the recipient to take some time and shop for herself – something they may not have had the luxury to do lately. The question now is, which women’s Christmas gift cards or gift certificates should you choose? Here are some helps to get you going on some great Christmas gift card ideas:
Starbucks (or their favorite coffee/drink stop) is a guaranteed hit. Every woman, whether on the go to work or running errands or transporting kids loves a coffee stop. What’s great about these little gems (the card) is that it says, ‘I know you need time for yourself and I care.’ Specifically, moms are pulled in every direction. Your wife/friend/sister/daughter (see how versatile this is?!?) will open this and be ecstatic, even if she doesn’t drink coffee. Slide a little note inside and tell her “They also serve hot chocolate, flavored teas and frappacinos. Take a break this week and treat yourself to some peace and quiet.” They’ll feel better and that will help to make the entire household feel better.
Most women like to feel pretty and they’ll find a plethora of various undergarments otherwise known as ‘lingerie’ in this pink adorned shop, aka Victoria’s Secret. This will help to boost that feeling of ‘pretty’. If women feel prettier, they often take the time to look prettier. It’s magic.
Another Starbucks option? A juice bar, candy shop stop, favorite bakery or lunch stop (McD’s and Taco Bell don’t count!). Is there a special deli, gourmet sandwich/lunch shop in town?
Target… It might sound like a local department store, but believe it or not, most women – rich or poor – consider it heaven. With today’s recession, it’s the one-stop shop in red letters. A higher end store may be a treat for some, they won’t, most likely, find the bargains or sweet deals they’ll find here. Note: when you give your Christmas gift card, put a little note in it that says, “Don’t forget to check the back end of the aisles for the best deals!
Macy’s (or their favorite clothing store)… Macy’s has a nice name brand-line of items for women and offer awesome after Christmas sales where a woman with a keen eye can really rack up some savings on a new outfit. She can also find some great deals in the house wares department if she’s looking to spruce up her kitchen supplies.
Find out where she has/ likes to have her hair done. Does she/would she enjoy a manicure? Maybe a pedicure. A women’s gift card idea must include beauty. Give her a card that also includes a massage and she’ll be walking on clouds! Not sure where to get the card? Ask one of her friends or a sister – they should be able to help.
Scrapbooking is still a rage and for women who scrapbook, a gift card or gift certificate to her favorite craft/scrapbook shop will no doubt bring a shout of joy. Scrapbooking can tend to be pricey, so consider a card to somewhere that doesn’t specialize in scrapbooking (WalMart, Michaels, Craft Warehouse, etc) where they have fun supplies and a fraction of the cost. Suggestion: At least invest ten dollars in this so she’ll be able to do at least one or two pages. Who knows – she may use you as her subject!
Alas, the next best gift card is a homemade one that you can give. Here are some ideas for a ‘gift pack’ or individual cards: babysitting for a night off, dinner out, cleaning the house (or at least helping), car wash (self-serving or commercial), etc.
The last couple of years has seen a surge gift cards for women that are prepaid cards. These are a nice idea. Let’s face it – a specific department store is nice, but she may need a cupboard full of groceries. The other advantage to a ‘generic’ card is that it takes the pressure off you – the giver – is you don’t know her favorite stop to shop.
Some women prefer the outdoors to the kitchen or table where her crafts await her. If she enjoys gardening, stop by the local nursery for a gift card for women who love to color the outdoors with flowers. She can find tools, gloves, and more there that will bring a wide smile to her face. Consider hiding the card in a package of seeds, a pair of gloves, or a new garden apron. She’ll love it!
It doesn’t matter whether you decide on a gift card for Christmas from a favorite dining establishment, a favorite bookstore, or a department store – you’ll have hit the mark when she opens the envelope and finds she’ll be able to do some shopping for herself, especially after Christmas, when all the great sales begin.
