San Diego, California, is a fantastic place to vacation but its expensive. In my opinion it is probably the highest priced city in the state to spend an extended amount of time. But there are a few ways that you can vacation on a budget. Here is a guide with a few tips to help you save your dollars and enjoy San Diego cheaply.
1) You will need to rent a car to really get around San Diego. Try to shop in advance for the best car rates. All the major rental companies are available such as Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, and many others. These often offer weekly specials or other savings online if you book early. Try to only book an economy car or a hybrid for added savings.
2) Most families who are on a vacation to San Diego will want to see the world famous San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, and Sea World. If you buy a pass for all three of these attractions or two of the attractions you will save a considerable amount of money. Please visit the San Diego Zoo website for more information. There are many places to enjoy a full days hike in stunning scenery.
Head to the beaches. These are free, fun, and fantastic in San Diego. Here is a Beach website that offers all the top beaches in the area.
The County of San Diego sports many wonderful parks to enjoy. These are often free or very cheap.
Take your family to Belmont Park for a fun day of riding rides for reasonable prices. You can have unlimited rides for $13.95 if over 50 inches tall and only $19.95 if under 50 inches tall.
Be sure to check out Mt Soledad Veterans Memorial which is free. It is located at Neighborhood: La Jolla

The views are breathtaking from here.
If you have children then be sure to head to the San Diego Firehouse Museum. Children are free and adults are only $3.00. The children will adore looking at all the firetrucks.
3) There are many dining opportunities in San Diego. You can choose all the regular fast food chains or you can go with diners and cafes. Here are a few unique choices that are reasonably priced that you should try when you are in the area. These restaurants will fit nicely into any budget.
