First thing that you need to know to start planing is when you will have this draft. You need to make sure you put it on a date that your mates will be available for three to four hours. Depending on your league this could be harder to do. With eight to fifteen people, schedules probably will not be able to match up completely. You can always have designated guests, just to draft for someone else who was not able to make it.
To inform and make people aware of the date and time of the draft, you will need to send some invitations. You can be extravagant and glitzy by creating invitations through the mail. Another option you can to spread the message by sending them an email or a message on Facebook. You should include what, where, when, and how much it will cost them. It would be nice to include the rules and scoring to have the league more prepared and strategic for the draft.
The next question is where will the arguing and making tough decisions during the draft take place? It should take place on tables that allows each member to have there own personal space. This allows the draft to go a bit more smoothly since they will have some private material and future plans that they can keep a bit more secret. They will not have to worry about keeping them protected. Having the room a bit on the cooler side would make the draft a bit more enjoyable since the tensions might rise a bit and cause others to have there heart rate to rise. Having wireless internet access and power is always a plus for those who would like to get the most recent updates and do some last minute research. I have never had a main draft board showing the available players, so I have not experienced if it has worked or not. I have only used a traveling master list of players.
Since this will be a four hour or more adventure, you should supply food and drinks. Depending on how generous you are, you can pay for them or have your guest pay a part of them. I suggest barbecue take-out from a local steakhouse for the manly man theme, but pizza and chips would suffice. Finger foods such as corn chips and salsa, meatballs, popcorn, or wings would keep them full. Beer or soda is also a must. Just think it as a poker game type food.
Some optional things to do to set up a live fantasy draft is to make sure you can supply an updated roster from the whole National Football League. This way, people can’t draft players that are out of the league or missing on other sheets. Also, this eliminates excuses for picking already drafted players.
I hope that this leads your league and you to a very successful season and the best of luck to you.
