Rock has been a major music genre for years. Throughout the year, rock has mesmerized fans young and old. Christmas time is no exception to this. Here is a list of the top ten rock songs rock fans should listen to during the holidays.
10. Kidnap the Sandy Clause by Korn: Blending the hardcore vocals and guitars of Korn with the classic song from one of the most popular Halloween and Christmas movies from the past twenty years, The Nightmare Before Christmas, this song defines a rock Christmas song. Having been asked to record the song for the album, Nightmare Revisited, this song brings out elements of Christmas such as Santa Clause and Christmas spirit, while combining chilling Halloween themes and heavy rock sound. It is a perfect song to start off any rockers holiday.
9. 12 Days of Christmas by Taking Back Sunday: The alternative band brings an eloquent sound to the famous song. While keeping much of the song the same, the band took the acoustic like performance to an all new level when they begin making dialog between the lead singer Adam and one of the other band mates, discussing the various lines in the song. It makes a great laugh, and adds to the bands charisma while giving us another great Christmas song.
8. Christmas Time is Here by Family Force 5: While not the traditional rock band, Family Force 5 is a great alternative/punk rock band that has entertained their wide fan base for years. The band recently released a full length Christmas album, and the song that stuck out above all the others was their version of Christmas Time is Here. This song takes all of the elements from the bands original music from previous albums and revises the song to make it much more fun and upbeat. Listening to this song is like being in a dance club on Christmas day.
7. Making Christmas by Rise Against: Every minute of this song is pure rock and roll. While a more current rock band, the basic elements are there, and are amplified ten fold. Taking another hit from The Nightmare Before Christmas,(the original music originally written by Danny Elfman, the former lead singer of Oingo Boingo), Rise Against turns the song of hellish creatures making their own version of Christmas and makes it a rock opera for the ages. It also sends a sort of positive message in the original lyrics, telling us that everyone celebrates the holidays in their own way, and should not try and force their ways onto others.
6. Remy Zero Christmas: Remy Zero may not be an overly well known band, but the lead singers great vocal range and the sheer tone of their music is great, and their song simply titled Christmas is wonderful as well. It rejoices the elements and spirit of the holiday, and brings a more alternative rock feel than previous Christmas rock songs. It is definitely one fans should listen for.
5. Smashing Pumpkins Christmastime: Everyone knows who the Smashing Pumpkins are. They are one of the most notorious alternative rock bands Their song has some pretty explicit lyrics, but the sound and blend the band puts fourth for their Christmas son is nothing less than amazing by the bands high standards, and its obvious why they are still a major force in the industry.
4. Queen Thank God its Christmas: I’ve got one word: Queen. This legendary band led by Freddy Mercury brings fourth a amazing song that speaks volumes of their talent and holiday spirit all at once. The vocals and musical talent is quite dramatic, and always makes it’s presence known throughout the entire song, and that’s what makes us love this song so much.
3. I won’t be Home for Christmas by Blink 182: With the bands amazing comeback this past year, I thought it only appropriate to bring fourth this amazing bands never ending popular Christmas song, I won’t be Home for Christmas. Combining the elements of the original song I’ll be Home for Christmas and adding the bands always humorous and steady style, this song is a wonder all its own. It gives us all the things we love about the band and puts us in the Christmas spirit all at once. It is a must listen for rock fans all throughout the holiday season.
2. Oi to the World by No Doubt: Another great band making a comeback this year, No Doubt brings fourth the amazing vocals of Gwen Stefani and the unique sound of the guitar riffs, bass melodies and drumming beat and combines it with a hit Christmas song. The band performed it for their friends and fellow Orange County band, The Vandals in 1996. It was the title song off the Christmas album, and it helped make the album a huge success.
1. Alone This Holiday by the Used: One of the most intense and hard core rock bands in todays industry, The Used bring fourth their romantic yet dark tone to the holiday with Alone This Holiday. The song showcases the bands well known style and brings their fans and all rock fans an original Christmas song that stands out above all others. It’s heartfelt, serious, and hard hitting, and is something that can be listened to all year round, but most importantly, should be listened to this holiday season.
