To make gourmet chocolate pecan apples you’ll need a few kitchen supplies. A double boiler is great for melting the caramel and chocolate. If you don’t own a double boiler use a small pan inside a large pan. The large pan should have an inch or two of water in it. The ingredients for caramel apples need low temperature melting.
You’ll also need a wooden spoon to stir the melting caramel and chocolate. The dipped gourmet chocolate pecan apples will need to cool off on some waxed paper before eating. Spread a sheet out on the table before making these Halloween treats. Melting and dipping the caramel and white chocolate must be done quickly so be prepared.
- 1 bag caramels
- 1 bag semi sweet gourmet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 tsp. water
- 1 tsp. vegetable oil
- 6 medium sized apples
- 6 craft sticks (sometimes included in the bag of caramels)
Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Poke a craft stick into each apple as a holder. Melt caramel pieces and water in a double boiler over medium heat until smooth. Don’t forget to remove the wrappers from the caramel! Dip and swirl apples in melted caramel until evenly coated. Place the coated apples stick side up on the waxed paper. Let caramel harden. This should take about an hour.
Melt chocolate chips and vegetable oil in the double boiler over medium heat until smooth. Now you’re ready to turn the plain caramel apples into gourmet chocolate pecan apples. Make sure the caramel is well set on the apples. Dip and swirl the apples quickly in the warm melted chocolate. Roll the coated apples in pecans. Place the coated apples stick side up on the waxed paper.
