With the all of the madness, fun and hurried holiday activities, it is very easy to forget to take care of yourself and be healthy! This article is here to remind you to be healthy! Here are my best and favorite tips for maintaining your health through the holidays!
Get plenty of rest. Many of us are guilty of sacrificing our precious sleep time for getting all of the holiday shopping, present wrapping and food preparation done. We end up feeling tired, sleepy and lacking energy. It is hard to fully enjoy the holiday season if you are drooping and lagging behind. Don’t do this! Schedule yourself enough time for plenty of rest during your busy holidays and you will get more done and feel much better. Be creative with your time. Catch a nap during the day or evening to make sure that you do not tire out. Make this a priority. This tip will keep you healthy during the holiday season!
Dress warmly. Many of us find that the holidays bring many outside trips back and forth. From shopping trips to family parties. Dress warmly and be prepared for the ever changing Fall and Winter weather. Keep an extra coat in your car. Dressing in layers can also help. You can shed clothes as you get indoors and warm up. Being warmly dressed will ensure that you do not catch a cold or the flu. This is a very important tip for maintaining your health through the holidays. For kids, this tip is especially important! Warm gloves, hats and scarves help! Have them handy.
Do not over eat. This one is hard. It is so tempting to try every sweet and food dish that is served, especially at Christmas parties and Thanksgiving dinner. Even Halloween can bring severe candy over eating. Limit yourself and stick to a very small portion of what you want to eat. If you know that you have three Christmas parties to attend in one day, be careful not to eat too much. You will be glad you did.
De stress. This is number one on my tips for maintaining your health through the holidays list! The holidays can be very stressful. It is a busy time and much of your energy is spent doing things for others. Take time out for yourself. Relax in a warm bubble bath, take a drive alone to cool down and keep calm. Treat yourself to a massage. Spend a bit of time during the holidays doing what relaxes you. You deserve it. This is a fun health tip to follow during the holidays! It will keep you healthy and happy.
Drink plenty of water. This healthy holiday tip is important and one that you want to follow. Often, we indulge in rich and high fat foods. Drinking plenty of water helps your body cope with your holiday diet changes. If you enjoy alcoholic beverages, drinking more water will help you not dehydrate. My rule is to take a bottle of water with you, wherever you go. Drink it. It will keep you healthy!
These tips for maintaining your health through the holidays will help keep you healthy! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve and Day all come along rapidly, if you think about it. Following these healthy holiday tips will ensure you a wonderful and healthful holiday season! Seasons greetings!
