Hillary Clinton became angry when she was asked what her husband Bill Clinton thought on an issue, according to the New York Daily News. A student in Kinshasa asked Hillary Clinton through a translator what Bill Clinton thought of China’s doings over a trade deal with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton became angry, saying, “Wait, you want me to tell you what my husband thinks? My husband is not the Secretary of State – I am.” She went on after some inaudible reply to her initially angry reply, “So you ask my opinion, I will tell you my opinion. I’m not going to be channeling my husband.”
I also heard the voice of Hillary Clinton via the Mark Levin Show Audio Rewind for the August 10 show, which was guest-hosted by Jed Babbin. He played the audio of this less than diplomatic-sounding moment which definitely proved how perturbed she was. Still, I think it’s understandable that Hillary Clinton reacted the way she did, even if there was an apparent mistranslation. Nonetheless, the question was posed.
Hillary Clinton Angry Over “Bill Clinton This, Bill Clinton That” Is Grounds for Empathy
Imagine spending all that time running for President like the Secretary of State did during the last election campaign. She loses, and then is made the chief diplomat of the United States instead of the Commander-in-Chief. Imagine how you’d feel if your husband, the former President, grabs a ton of headlines over his role in securing the release of the two journalists in North Korea last week, even though he has no official position in the Obama Administration. Imagine getting more attention in the media by doing some dancing in Kenya, as shown on YouTube, rather than for your more serious work.
Top that with being asked what your husband thinks about a foreign policy issue when you’re the one who is supposed to be in charge of foreign policy (subject to just President Obama supposedly). Imagine being on a trip to seven African countries over 11 days and probably being rather tired and maybe jetlagged. Is it surprising that she responded the way she did?
If I were her, I’d probably feel rather unappreciated and frustrated. Hillary Clinton is still in the shadow of Bill Clinton, a ceiling that is made of something stronger than glass, and one that may never break unless she manages to become President someday.
