Never having been a stylish person, it feels funny to be writing a story on the hot fall fashion colors for tops for 2009. Plus I am well over the age of 40, which means I am pretty much out of touch with runway styles. I have never even seen any of the runway/modeling shows that are very popular on television these days.
But I am a woman and I do want to look presentable when I am at work or out with my husband. I have gone through the rebellious phases where I only wore flannel shirts and ripped jeans. Also the t-shirt and long skirt phase. Now I just want to look good enough that what little confidence I have left stays with me. I have found that clothing can help a person feel more confident and that is good.
So you ask, what are the colors we should be wearing in the Fall of 2009. According to Becomegorgeous.com look for greys, olives, dark yellows and any color that is neutral. When I looked at other sites, they mentioned the same thing. Also that black is a good color for this fall. This is good news for me since almost all of my current wardrobe consists of blacks and greys (which isn’t much fun in the summer).
The other thing good about neutral colors is that you can mix and match with less and still have more outfits. With the economy the way it is, dressing smarter makes the most sense (and cents). The fun part of a darker, neutral wardrobe is that it is easy to dress it up with a red, pink or blue scarf or some other fun accessory. It is also fun to pull out your old, dusty jewelry box and look for a fun pin or necklace that has a lot of color. This will go a long way in helping you dress up neutral colored tops.
You can look at Vogue or other fashion magazines and websites to get an expert view on what to wear this fall. Though not an expert (in any shape or form), I have learned one thing. Being comfortable helps you feel better. In our working world, you can’t always wear the most comfortable articles of clothing, but you can pick materials that feel good against your skin and do not irritate you. For example, I love angora sweaters, but the little floaty things in the angora make me absolutely nuts. My nose itches and I get crabby really quickly. So I don’t wear angora sweaters. Learn what you like and then learn how to make that work for you.
My advice for this fall, look for neutral colors for your tops and dress them up with some colorful flair. Pick materials that feel good on your skin. Read the tags on your tops and find out how much care they need. If it is more care than you have time to give, try other fabric types. Reuse what you already own and change it up with a scarf or pin. Classic pieces hardly ever go out of style, while trendy ones come and go quickly. Also remember it doesn’t matter if you get your clothes at Wal-Mart, JCPenney or Sax. You can make it work!! Enjoy the cooler weather and love your wardrobe. Have fun with it!!
