I have found it amazing and entertaining how different everyone acts in public restaurants. It is as though we all have had a different training manual, and yet; somehow we are still all brought together in a synchronized ballet sometimes every day. And of course as with any human behaviors; if you really could poll each and every one of us, we could rationalize every single behavior we have acquired, as if it were written in stone, that big ole rule book that we think we all have read. I guess I am not here to agree or disagree, it is pretty entertaining though, it is part of the reason we are all “out there watching each other”.
Here are some of the people I have seen, the list could go on and on:
The Once Every So Often family:
You can tell they “don’t get out much”, by them constantly hushing up, and whispering, looking around and seeing that everyone really is watching them. The parents keep pulling out their wallets and purses, as they are looking at the menu. The kids are Very Vocal, and do not understand the game? The parents are fraught with terror in their eyes, Oh, my God, the manager is going to ask us to leave, I just know it, Oh, my God, and that is the worst fate, ever, worse than death.
The Girls (Women over 30) Night out/Dinner/Meeting/Scrapbooking/Birthday/Anniversary:
Always vocal this group, always celebrating something. Dressed to the nines, perfume in the air, lipstick and heels and perhaps a little alcohol wouldn’t hurt either. There are always gift bags and presents, oohhs and aahhs, and tinsel and wrapping. Someone usually chases a waiter or bartender by the end of the night.
The Boys (Men over 30) Night out:
The boys are usually different in their approach than the girls. They are there to meet, plan, eat and go do whatever the heck they are going to do. Although a few of them usually show back up to flirt with the bartender or server, or the table of Girls night out patrons.
The “I know exactly what I want and I am going explain it to you to get it” Patron:
This can be young or old, male or female, anything goes, but this person is on a mission to get exactly what they want and they will give you every detail, Ad nauseam. Example, “So, butter the toast on the side, not on the middle and just half of the egg white is ok, on and on. This isn’t the rude “I want everything my way” person, but the problem is they are not the servers only priority, the 168+ people who just got off of a casino bus are.
They eat at restaurants all the time, this is an every day occurrence, you come in, you treat everyone with respect, and they treat you with respect. Lather, rinse, repeat.
