If you want to give your Trick or Treaters a night that they will remember get off your butt and start planning how you are going to hand out candy this Halloween! Make a night of it and let your little ghouls and gobblins and witches and action heroes leave your home with more than just candy. Create a night that will stick in their memory. It will give you fond memories too! Follow the steps below to have just as much fun as the kids… maybe even more fun!
WEAR A COSTUME — Don’t greet your Trick or Treaters in every day clothing. Put on a costume! If you don’t have a costume, just wear some funny outfit and wear a cheap mask or make up your face. Just do something different. The kids will get a kick out of it.
SIT OUTSIDE — Put a chair outside and sit there! Let the kids approach and by not having to hold a door open with one had while handing out candy with the other hand you can actually take a few minutes to chat with the kids and to appreciate their costumes!
WEAR TWO MASKS — Want to get a rise out of the kids? Put a scary mask on then put a funny mask over it. After your kids laugh at your funny mask take it off and watch their expressions! It’s really quite fun!
PLAY SPOOKY MUSIC — Play spooky music and play it loud! Let all the kids know they need to come to your house. Then while you are sitting outside, dare them to approach you!
ADD DECORATIONS — Decorate a little or decorate a lot. It’s up to you. If you can’t afford decoration or just don’t have the time, at the very least try to have a lighted Jack-O-Lantern nearby or a ghost hanging from a tree… just something, anything!
TELL A STORY — Make up a spooky Halloween story and tell it to the kids! Make it short and sweet. They’ve got other houses to go to!
INVITE THEM BACK — Always tell the kids to come back next year. You can even put a note on their goodie bag saying “Thank you for visiting the Jones Family at (enter your address). See you next year!” Then each year make it a bit more exciting than the first. You and the kids will love it! And soon yours will be the house everyone wants to hit on Trick or Treat night!
