As an Internet marketer and owner of a bricks and mortar food business, I have, through trial and error learned what does and does not work for me when it comes to increasing online sales from my website. If your website does not get adequate exposure and marketing, your online sales will falter. It doesn’t matter how gorgeous or flashy your website appears to you. If it doesn’t appeal to your customers, and most flashy websites don’t because they cause your website to load very slowly, your online sales will suffer. A simple easy to navigate website that is clear, concise and utilizes white space will increase your online sales.
Use of appropriate color will enhance your website and give it a professional appearance. A loud mixture of mismatched colors looks cheap and amateurish. This can be very detrimental, especially if you have a bricks and mortar business. If a potential customer is interested in paying your business a visit, he may search for you online before he makes the trip. If his first impression of your website is negative, it will greatly influence his decision to come to your business. Learning how to increase online sales is not a difficult concept to grasp. The first and most important thing you need to know when learning how to increase online sales is to make your website be all about the customer. Do not toot your own horn excessively on your website. The only person that will care to hear about your lavish accomplishments is you. Learning how to increase online sales is based on a few simple principles.
Don’t inundate your website with a bunch of silly offers to entice your customers. One or two strong offers is sufficient. Your “Buy this for $200 and get a Free pen” is silly and insulting to your customers. When learning how to increase online sales make sure to include one or two strong offers on your website. A “buy one get one” is always a strong offer that pulls well. The “2 for 1” is also enticing to your customers. More than one or two offers is confusing and it will dilute the perceived value of your offers. I always test my offers to see which ones pull the most. High tail your poorer performing offers off your website fast.
When learning how to increase online sales, never forget to include a strong call to action. I can describe a call to action as asking the customer what you want them to do. Do you want them to call you? If so, your call to action would be “call now”, or better yet, “hurry, call now”. Do you want your customer to order your product or service, if so, and if you have an e-commerce site, make sure your call to action states “order now” or “click here to order.” Don’t take it for granted that your website visitors will know what you want them to do. You have to actually tell them. It sounds so simple, but this is a very important component when you are learning how to increase your online sales.
Don’t forget to prominently display your contact information. If your potential customers have to search for your contact information to call you, they might go elsewhere. Always include your e-mail address and fax number in your contact information.
Skip the fancy graphics and animation unless it’s absolutely relevant to your business. I cannot stress this enough as it tends to cause your website to load very slowly. You only have a second or two to grab your customer’s attention. If they have to sit around and wait until your page has loaded your graphics, they will move on. I can speak from experience. When I first was building my website, I thought my customers would enjoy listening to some tunes and looking at some flash animation. I was wrong. My bounce rate increased when I added the music and animation. The higher the bounce rate, the shorter the time a visitor spent on your page. I will say that even though you might want to limit your flash and animation, your customers will enjoy some nice pictures of what you’re trying to sell. Make sure the pictures are good quality and relevant to what your selling.
A clear concise website is needed to increase online sales. By testing and experimenting, you will soon discover what works best to increase your online sales. Good luck!
