How to Landscape a Concrete Patio with Decor

by sawpan

Landscaping a concrete patio with decor is all about building upon different textures. Alternating shapes, sizes and materials will help you to create whatever oasis it is that you are dreaming about. Gathering all these elements together and planning how you will use them before you begin your outdoor decorating project will make the whole process a lot easier. Regardless of the area size you are working with, transforming it into your own slice of paradise takes only a little time.

Things You’ll Need
Concrete paint & painting supplies (optional)
Table(s)/seating
Pots/plants
Personal decorations

Step 1
Choose your theme and/or color combinations. Whether you want a tropical island, Tiki bar, flower garden or a more individually personal scheme; you need to clearly define the look that you want to create in your outdoor space. If you already have a decor inspiration, such as material or a fun vase, use that item to pick your colors and other items from.

Step 2
Paint the foundation to match if you wish. (If you want to leave it natural, skip to step 3) There are many paints meant specifically for when you are landscaping a concrete patio, that will stick to the rough surface. Though this adds time onto your outdoor decorating project, it adds visual interest and helps to set the mood that you are trying to achieve.

Step 3
Choose a table/seating set to match the area. There are many options available, in patio sets, from wicker to wrought iron. You can also choose to implement swings, hammocks and other nontraditional seating to fit your theme. It is important to choose these larger items first to build the rest of the decor around it as it will determine how much space that you have left to work with. You can even divide up the space into different conversation areas when you are trying to figure out how to landscape a patio with decor; such as a larger table to enjoy cocktails on and a more intimate area off to one side that is meant for two.

Step 4
Buy pots and plants to match your scheme, no matter what it is. Bringing some life to your design will help tie the outdoor space into the setting that naturally surrounds it. This could be as lavish as trees in huge pots and hanging ferns or as simple as a single orchid in a crystal vase. If you are not the gardening type, there are very real looking choices in fake greenery that can be found in your local florist shop as well.

Step 5
Finish off the area with small personal touches, such as mosquito netting to visually close your Island Oasis in, or water fountains to add the sound of an exotic waterfall to your tropical paradise. Their are limitless statues, waterproof clocks and other outdoor decorating items at any local home improvement store or neighborhood garden center. When tackling a landscaping concrete patio project, choose decor that showcases what you want the space to be.
