The vampire costume is a favorite. It is a character we are all familiar with from watching vampire movies, or reading horror books. Let’s now make you into a blood-sucking creature of the night.
The first thing you do is get some styling gel and slick back your hair. Purchase some white and red face makeup, black eye makeup, dark red lipstick, fake long nails, black nail polish, and a pair of fangs. Get some makeup sponges and brushes. Most of these items can be purchased at your local department store. Take your makeup sponge and glide the white makeup over your face and neck, don’t forget your hands. You can set your makeup by taking a makeup brush, dipping it in baby powder and brushing over the white painted areas. Take your black eye makeup and place on the eyelid and underneath the eye, smudge with a makeup brush. This will give your eyes the smokey look. You could also add a little to your eyebrows to give them a fuller look. Put your red lipstick on. Place fangs in your mouth. Take red makeup and paint blood drops to the side of the mouth. Take your black pencil and place two dots on the neck , then go over dots with red makeup. Make a couple of red drops on the neck to look like blood.
If you really want to go all out you can buy specialty contact lenses called White Out. They are non prescription and cost $34.99. They will really give you that vampire look with the smokey eye. Go to Amazon marketplace, www.amazon.com.
Make sure to have black pants, black shoes, and a white stand-up collar shirt. If possible check your thrift stores for a burgundy velvet vest. You can buy capes as part of a costume, or purchase a couple yards of black faux silk or velvet fabric. Cut to size. Place around neck and tie. Make sure your collar is standing up. Take some water and mix with red food coloring. Take a brush and spatter on the white shirt. This will give the effect of blood on the shirt. A fun prop to make and carry with you would be to take the mixture of water and red food coloring and put it in a secure clear plastic bag. Write a blood type on the bag, like O+, in black magic marker. It will resemble those blood drips you get at the hospital. Last thing you want to do is take your long faux nails, paint them black, then apply. If these nails are to hard to work with just paint your own nails black. To add one last twist to your costume, purchase a faux bat and attach it to the shoulder of your cape with a safety pin, and place faux blood around the bat’s mouth. Have a happy Halloween.
