by sawpan

How to Make Poster Paint: Kids love to paint. You can save money and have even more fun with your kids by making homemade poster paint! There are lots of recipes for homemade poster paint. This one is fairly simple and works really well. So make some paint and let your kids show off their artistic talents!

GATHER THE POSTER PAINT INGREDIENTS — You will need 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 2 cups of cold water, food coloring, any dish soap, a spoon, a medium sauce pan, and small empty jars for paint storage (baby food jars or small jelly jars are perfect).

MAKE THE POSTER PAINT — Mix the sugar and cornstarch in the sauce pan with a spoon. Stir in the water and heat the mixture on low heat. Keep stirring until all the ingredients are blended and the sugar is dissolved.

SEPARATE THE PAINT AND ADD THE COLOR — Pour the warm paint mixture into small jars. Then add a few drops of food color to each jar of paint and stir in the food color with a clean spoon. Keep adding food color until you get the shade you want. Also add one drop of dish soap to each jar of paint. It helps make clean up easier! To store your paints, just put the covers on the jars and keep on any shelf. Shake or stir before each use.

How to Make Fat Paint: If your kids like to paint, they are going to love this recipe for homemade fat paint! Fat paint is sort of like puff paint except it does not puff up. It just comes out thick. When it dries, the paint will be raised just like puff paint. You can feel it! You can use fat paint on paper or on craft objects that will not be washed, such as face masks, party hats or party favors, pinatas, or any other item you can think of! Have fun making and using your fat paint!

GET YOUR FAT PAINT INGREDIENTS — You will need the following ingredients: 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of water, and some powdered tempera paint (get tempera paint at any craft store or craft section of Walmart).

GET YOUR FAT PAINT SUPPLIES — You will need the following supplies: a mixing bowl, a spoon, and an empty squeeze bottle. An empty mustard bottle as seen in the photo is perfect. Or you can buy new squeeze bottles in the craft section or cooking section of just about any store (those plastic red and yellow squeeze bottles for catsup and mustard work great!).

MIX YOUR FAT PAINT — Stir the flour, the salt and the water in the mixing bowl using the spoon. Add a few teaspoons of tempera paint and stir the color through the mixture. Pour the fat paint into the squeeze bottle. You can mix different colored batches and put into separate squeeze bottles.

USE YOUR FAT PAINT — Squeeze your fat paint onto your art paper or onto whatever project you are making. Let it dry as is. It will dry fat and be raised like puff paint. You will be able to feel the lines you drew with your fingertips!
