The temperatures are cooler and football is on television so it must fall. As we begin the fall season, many of us will plan for our Thanksgiving dinner parties and celebrations. With that in mind, I wanted to share my two favorite cheap Thanksgiving centerpieces with you. You do not have to spend a fortune to have a lovely Thanksgiving centerpiece you just need to be a little creative. I have used these Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas for a few years and each year my guests still talk about how exquisite the centerpiece looks.
Simple fall gourds and leaves centerpiece – This is probably one of the easiest fall centerpieces that you can create and it does not require a lot of time, skill or money. This also makes a very inexpensive yet beautiful centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table so you can get your money’s worth by using this centerpiece from the beginning of fall through Halloween and then Thanksgiving. Purchase a variety of small to medium size gourds. You can purchase them online at Gurney’s Seed & Nursery, your local garden store, grocery store or my favorite place, the local farmer’s market. The more shapes, sizes and colors you select the more interesting your Thanksgiving centerpiece will be. You will also need fall leaves for this centerpiece. You can find them in your own front yard or purchase artificial fall leaves from your craft store or online (Oriental Trading has 250 for only $3.99). For the centerpiece, scatter some of the fall leaves in the center of the table, arrange the decorative gourds on top of the leaves and add leaves around and in the gourds to accent. You can also use pinecones, berries or other fall accents to make this Thanksgiving centerpiece more elaborate. You may also want to use a clear glass bowl to hold the gourds and add taper candles. One year I hollowed out a few of the gourds and added votive candleholders to add to the centerpiece’s appeal.
Fall flowers and mini-pumpkin centerpiece – Mini-pumpkins are just cute no matter how you look at it and they are a wonderful, inexpensive tool to use in a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Fall mums are the flower of winter with their beautiful blooms and vibrant colors. Fresh flowers are a wonderful centerpiece for Thanksgiving and mums are the perfect choice. Choose one or more plants and put them in decorative containers or pots. I like to wrap plain, cheap pots with fall themed cloth (grab it for a $1 off the scrap pile at your local craft or sewing store) and add a gorgeous ribbon of maple orange. Arrange the mini-pumpkins at the base of the flowers and you have a simple, quick and inexpensive Thanksgiving centerpiece.
