Wooden Spoons – I love wooden spoons. I have about a dozen in different sizes and shapes. One thing to remember, you need to toss the old ones out after a period of time. I prefer to use a wooden spoon on my non-stick cookware. I have a large crock next to my stove that holds my ‘gadgets’ such as spoons and scrapers. The wooden spoons are also a decorate touch and they add a little warmth to all the metal and plastic items! Never put a wooden spoon in the dishwasher.

Spices – You know all the little containers you have stuck back in the cabinet that you forget about? They don’t last forever. Dried spices only have a short shelf life of a few months. Perhaps the cook on your list can use some new spices. Pick up some sea salt, lemon pepper, chives, dill weed and some garlic to spice up some meals. Check McCormick’s website for more information on spices.

Knife Sharpener – There are a few different types of knife sharpeners available. Did you know that most cuts happen because of a dull knife, not a sharp one? A sharp knife is safer for the cook to use and speeds things up at prep time.

Scissors – Yes, scissors are a must in the kitchen. I have several pairs in different areas of the kitchen.
