My mother-in-law received a box of individual “International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamers” from my sister-in-law who’d purchased them at Sam’s club. When my daughter visited she tried one and went absolutely over the moon for them. She said that they were “better than cheesecake”. While I don’t think anything compares to my daughter’s homemade, New York style cheesecake, I tried a sip and it was very good. We got our daughter a full sized bottle in the refrigerated section at Hy-Vee (It’s also available at Wal-Mart.) so she could have her own.
“International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamer” comes in a tall blue bottle with a very nice light blue photo of a scene in France complete with the Eiffel Tower. Towards the center is a softly rendered image of vanilla flowers, vanilla beans, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Above a blue cup of light colored steaming coffee, we are told that “International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamer” is “Smooth, creamy vanilla inspired by the cafes of Paris.” I have not been to a cafe in Paris, so I will have to take their word for it. The back of the bottle goes into more detail about French vanilla and the “Parisian State of Mind”. I’m not sure how much “International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamer” really has to do with France, but the packaging designers did a good job of creating a sense of calm with their use of color and design.
Now having tried “International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamer” in coffee as well as alone, I can say it is just as good either way. It has a sweet rich vanilla flavor that gives my coffee a slightly smoky quality. Something in the flavor also reminds me a little of vanilla soy milk, though soy isn’t listed in the ingredients. It is also sweet enough that I don’t need to add any extra sugar. So even though there are 45 calories per tablespoon, it doesn’t add up to more than my regular milk and sugar. Actually, the calorie intake is pretty near identical (and the five percent of saturated fat is probably pretty close too).
The price wasn’t bad either. For under three dollars you get 64 one tablespoon servings. And, unlike some other products, a tablespoon really is enough for a good cup of coffee.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of “International Delight French Vanilla Coffee Creamer”. It tastes great and is low enough in fat and calories to enjoy every day. Now I just have to get my own bottle.
