This old rumor is surfacing again, only this time, there’s a photo. A video taken at the Glastonbury Festival in England has produced a grainy photo, claiming to be a picture of “something extra” that wouldn’t be there, were Lady Gaga purely female. You can speculate yourselves based on the photo (seen here), but until it is confirmed, or denied, it will continue to remain a guessing game.
Most sites are carrying the supposed confirmation, reported by Starrtrash:
“Lady Ga-Ga has confirmed that she indeed is a hermaphrodite. Pictures of her vagina, which shows a bulge resembling a tiny penis were released last week that started the rumors about her gender identity. Starrtrash confirmed the story with her blog entry earlier this morning.
Its not something that I’m ashamed of, just isn’t something that i go around telling everyone. Yes. I have both male and female genitalia, but i consider myself a female. Its just a little bit of a penis and really doesn’t interfere much with my life. the reason I haven’t talked about it is that its not a big deal to me. like come on. its not like we all go around talking about our vags. I think this is a great opportunity to make other multiple gendered people feel more comfortable with their bodies. I’m sexy, I’m hot. i have both a poon and a peener. big ****ing deal.”
Still, with no proof that this message actually came from Lady Gaga, speculation is running rampant, and people are embellishing across the board.
Whether this is true, or not, I’m guessing this rumor will follow Lady Gaga throughout her career, much like it has hounded other famous females in Hollywood.
In 2005, reports surfaced that Ciara, dubbed the First Lady of “Crunk & B” was actually born a boy. Rumors ran from her announcing it on an MTV special about intersexuality (the medical term for those with ambiguous gender), to discussing it with Oprah on her talk show.
Ciara has denied the rumor, telling the New York Daily News:
“You know what’s funny? The rumor that I used to be a man. They said Oprah said that on her show. I’ve never been on Oprah in my life, so come on!”
It isn’t just female music artists either. Both Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis have been labeled intersexual by the rumor mill, with eerily similar stories.
For Nicole, the stories run from “Someone attended a fertility conference, where they discussed Nicole Kidman, revealed she was intersexual, and that’s why she couldn’t have kids” to “A neighbor of the doctor who delivered Nicole confirmed that she was a hermaphrodite”. No one knows the origins of either of these stories, but I’ve personally heard people spout the story as if it was set in steel fact.
Jamie Lee’s rumor may have sprung from a comment by her mother about choosing her name:
“At that time,” she told Village Voice columnist Michael Musto in 1998, “we didn’t know ahead of time if it would be a girl or a boy, so when I was pregnant with Kelly, my best friend Jackie Gershwin said, ‘Why don’t you call the baby Kelly, so if it’s a girl, it works, and if it’s a boy, it works?’ And she thought the same thing with Jamie. The babies were named before they were born because Jackie said, ‘This way, we won’t have to worry about it!'”
Rumors flew that the gender neutral name was chosen while they decided whether she should be “made” male, or female. It’s also claimed that a visiting physician at Cedars Sinai saw her records and confirmed that she was born intersexual.
Neither Nicole, nor Jamie Lee have bothered to deny these rumors. Nicole Kidman may have settled those circling her with the birth of her daughter in 2008, but those rumors never seem to die out completely.
My verdict? People need to stop recycling old rumors, and come up with something a little more imaginative!
