Jeff Fisher wore a Peyton Manning jersey at a charity event. Due to Jeff Fisher wearing the Peyton Manning jersey, he is receiving a bit of bad press about his loyalty to the team and his actions are being placed under a microscope. This is an instance where people just need to back away from the issue and stop stirring up thoughts of a controversy because one just doesn’t exist. Jeff Fisher is the coach of the Tennessee Titans, and he wore the jersey of Peyton Manning (who plays for the Indianapolis Colts) to poke fun at himself, and for that he should actually be applauded rather than lauded.
The Tennessee Titans are 0-6 this year, and have been playing some terrible football on the field. They are tied for the worst record in the NFL through week 6, and there isn’t really anything positive to say about the team right now. On Sunday they played the New England Patriots, and were beaten to the tune of 59-0, flat out embarrassing anyone that has anything to do with the Titans. Keeping that in perspective, Coach Jeff Fisher obviously knows that his team is struggling, and isn’t looking to pass off the blame of being the coach on anyone else. When he was asked by former Colts coach Tony Dungy to attend a Nashville fundraiser he jumped at the chance.
During a speech at the fundraiser with Tony Dungy, Jeff Fisher took off his coat and shirt to reveal that he was wearing a Peyton Manning jersey. He went on to say that he just wanted to feel like a winner, and that elicited a good laugh from the crowd. It should be generating laughs from fans of the Tennessee Titans as well, but it seems that some people are intent on making him look like a bad guy in this situation. That Jeff Fisher was willing to take on some self-deprecating humor to lighten the mood at the charity event was a nice move by one of the best coaches in the NFL, and shouldn’t be viewed any other way.
The Tennessee Titans have been terrible this season, and there isn’t more than one way to look at things. It’s not Jeff Fisher’s fault, and he is doing what he can to keep the team afloat. The team is lucky to have him, and fans as well as media people should be fully aware of that by now. With that in hand, it’s easy to see that Jeff Fisher loves his job, and shouldn’t be ridiculed for just poking fun at himself and his team. Why would anyone take offense to his actions? He isn’t rooting for the Colts, he isn’t leaving the Titans high and dry, and he wants nothing more than for the Titans to beat the Colts. This is an instance where everyone just needs to lighten up, have a quick laugh at this joke, and move on to more important topics. One of those topics could be how the Titans will stop the passing game in week 8.
