Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski will appear on the next season’s premiere of The Bachelor to advise Jake Pavelka on his decisions. The couple will also make a special announcement. My guess is that Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski have set a wedding date.
As an unabashedly biased Reid Rosenthal fan, I have to ask: can we really trust the advise of a Bachelorette who chose Ed Swiderski over the far more appealing Reid Rosenthal, Kiptyn Locke, and Jake Pavelka?
According to the ABC statement (as reported by NBC Miami), “Just as the women think it’s time for the Bachelor to hand out the coveted first impression rose, Chris announces a twist: the ladies not only must impress Jake, but also last season’s happy couple – Jillian and Ed.”
Last season, Jillian Harris continually told fans that she had a good head on her shoulders and that “women everywhere” were going to be proud of the decision she made. She could have chosen Reid or Kiptyn. She could have pulled a Brad Womack (chosen nobody). She could have pulled a Jason Mesnick (swapped Ed for Reid). Instead she chose the disingenuous shifty-eyed Ed Swiderski who had fed her exactly what she wanted to hear.
When the media broke the stories about Ed Swiderski’s multiple girlfriends and allegations of cheating, Jillian Harris stood by her man the way Silda Spitzer and Hillary Clinton stood by their husbands. Jillian Harris is stubborn. The more fans criticized her for choosing Ed, the more determined she was in her resolve to stay with him.
I’m just glad that Reid Rosenthal and Kiptyn Locke are not representing the Bachelor franchise this season. They are probably better off dating women on their own terms without having to deal with the rigid rules and time lines of reality television. And Ed Swiderski is ultimately a better match for Jillian Harris anyway. She had always commented that Kiptyn was “out of her league.”
Jake Pavelka is the ideal Bachelor. With his all-American good looks, his pilot uniform, and wholesome Christian values, he is ABC’s dream. Statements such as “I’m here for the right reasons” and “I’m on an emotional journey” are fodder for reality TV junkies everywhere.
Jake Pavelka is ready to find love. Hopefully Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski will steer him in the right direction.
The Bachelor premiers January 4, 2010.
