Meal replacements have been around for awhile now. You can drink down meals in a shake or snap up a meal bar and eat it on the go. Despite the variations on names like energy bars or protein bars, the bottom line is that these meal bars, though many times nutritious, don’t always taste too good. I’m happy to report that Kellogg’s Special K Meal Bars are not only filling, but they’re extremely tasty too.
Kellogg’s Special K cereal has been a popular choice come breakfast or any old meal time. It’s been around for years. Now add these meal bars into the mix and you’ve got a trusted brand producing a satisfying nutritional product for the health conscious, diet conscious or just the consumer on the go looking for a fast, but healthy alternative to a candy bar or other junk food fix.
With flavors like Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Strawberry and Chocolatey Chip to choose from, there’s a delicious taste for all taste buds. I love the Chocolate Peanut Butter the best, but the Strawberry is delicious too. These bars are definitely chewy, which is something I love about them. The longer you chew, the longer this ‘meal’ lasts, and you really feel as if you’re eating a meal. They also fill you up nicely. Boldly printed on the box of the Special K protein meal bars is this powerful boast: “Feel fuller longer.” It’s not just a baseless claim. Hours after eating one, I still don’t really feel that hungry.
As a meal replacement source, these bars have lots of nutritional punch and lots of ingredients. Here’s the most important nutritional breakdown. Total Fat 6g or 9%, Saturated Fat 3.5g or 18%, No cholesterol, Total Carbohydrate 24g or 8%, Dietary Fiber 5g, Sugars 15g, Protein 10g or 18%.. For those needing to avoid certain food stuffs like milk, soy or peanut, these bars do contain that as well as wheat, egg, pecan and almond ingredients.
The box prominently displays Protein in large letters, so if a good, quick and relatively cheap source of added protein to the diet is needed, this bar may just be your choice for a protein power punch.
Kellogg’s Special K Meal Bars are 1.59 oz in weight and are sold 6 bars to a box – for a total Net Wt of 9.59oz or 270g. The bars are nicely sized, very tasty, incredibly chewy and do fill one up for a few hours. My local supermarkets, convenience stores or pharmacies carry them for about eight dollars retail, so you’re getting six meal bars for under $1.50 each. This is comparable to buying energy or meal bars individually in most stores. These bars delivered good taste, nutrition and value for my money, and I recommend them highly.
