As Kit-Kit lay napping he dreamed of a world beyond. A world of light and rainbows. Fields of vibrant colored flowers surrounded him. Others of his kind tumbled, pounced and played under the warm, sunny blue sky. The sun felt good. Birds sang in the trees. Squirrels and kitties played together, playing tag with each other’s bushy tails. Kit-Kit felt good, almost like he was a kitten again. Kit-Kit had never seen such a place as this place before. He liked the warm peacefulness and all the strange and interesting scents. Where was this place?
As Kit-Kit gazed across the land, he saw his old friend Choo-Choo. Kit-Kit had not seen Choo-Choo for many years. Choo-Choo’s short tuxedo fur gleamed and rippled in the warm sunshine. Choo-Choo was running and playing with other kitties that Kit-Kit did not know. Suddenly Choo-Choo lifted his head and look directly toward Kit-Kit. Almost by magic Choo-Choo and the others were by Kit-Kit’s side, greeting him in the traditional kitty fashion of long missing friends.
After nose sniffing and a few gentle head-butts, Choo-Choo told the others about his adventures with Kit-Kit and their person and all the travels they had taken together. As Choo-Choo told of their adventures, Kit-Kit wondered why they had never traveled to a place such as this before. Where was his person? Where was this place?
In fact, Kit-Kit did not see any humans in this wonderful place. Kit-Kit thought that was very unusual. Oh well… Kit-Kit would look for his person later. For now, Kit-Kit wanted to run and play with Choo-Choo and all his new friends.
Kit-Kit felt light as air as he pounced and tumbled among the flowers and trees with his friends. Zeus, a big silver-gray kitty could hide behind the tininess little sunflower, then pop up in front of Kit-Kit with no warning. Then there was Chi-Chi kitty; her silver-gray and white fur shining. She stood majestically, staring into the limbs of a tall tree, then jumped effortlessly to hide among it’s leaves. Soon Chi-Chi would pounce on an unsuspecting Choo-Choo and they would tumble playfully among the flowers as Zeus and Kit-Kit watched. Kit-Kit thought this was such a wonderful place, where all kitties were friends and they could play all day. Where was this place?
As they played, Kit-Kit discovered a small stream. Actually, Kit-Kit tumbled into the stream while playing tag with Choo-Choo and their friends. This stream was unlike any Kit-Kit had ever seen before. It must be magical, because as he climbed out onto the grassy bank, his lovely, long, thick, orange-striped fur instantly dried. Had this been an ordinary stream, the water would have matted his fur and taken hours to dry. Choo-Choo called it the ‘Eternal Stream’. Even though the stream was narrow, Choo-Choo said they should wait a while to cross. They should wait for ‘the others’. Kit-Kit wasn’t sure why, but instinctively knew Choo-Choo was right. Kit-Kit wasn’t sure who ‘the others’ were, but he would wait. Beside, he was having too much fun to go wading in a magical stream. What a strange, but nice place this was.
The stars sparkled in the growing twilight. Kit-Kit wondered why he wasn’t tired from all the tumbling and game playing with all his new friends. Even though the sky was growing dark, the fields were still warm and inviting. Some kitties were curled among the flowers, not really sleeping, but watching the fire-flies emerge from hiding. A few kitties jumped high into the air to touch the flittering fire-flies. Kit-Kit thought the fire-flies must be magical, because they never got hurt and they seemed to enjoy the game as much as the kitties. They would zoom down near the hidden kitties, then zoom high in the sky, tempting the kitties to leave the ground and fly high to catch them. It amazed Kit-Kit that he could jump so much higher here in this new place.
Kit-Kit had no sense of how long he and his friends had been in this strange place, running and playing and having fun. In this new place, time seemed not to exist. One day Kit-Kit saw a human. All the kitties watched as the human walked toward a short, arched bridge over the Eternal Stream. Soon the human was joined by three kitties that Kit-Kit did not know, but had seen playing near the edge of the field of flowers. The human and the kitties greeted each other, gently scratching and snuggling and rubbing on each other. Then, the kitties guided their human across the bridge to the other side. As they reached the other side, a great rainbow appeared in the sky. That is when Kit-Kit realized he must wait here in this special land until his person came for him. Then, he and Choo-Choo would guide his person across the Eternal Stream bridge and be drawn up into their own rainbow. Until then, Kit-Kit would run and play and tumble among the flowers and jump high in the sky to touch the fire-flies.
