American Woodmark markets ten designer styles of kitchen cabinets in such woods as cherry, maple, hickory, and oak. Each of the styles offers different doors, different looks, and different molding.
The American Woodmark company was started in Boise, Idaho in 1951. Back in the early days they made dental cabinets exclusively and then they began to tentatively branch out when it was bought by Boise Cascade. In 1980 the company was purchased again and become known as American Woodmark. It officially went public in 1986.
The cabinets sold by American Woodmark are already created units, they are not a custom design. They are sold at Home Depots across the nation. When you first enter Home Depot you will be able to make the choice to purchase the cabinets and install them yourself or have a installation specialist install the kitchen cabinets for you at a cost. You can also make the decision to hire an outside contractor to install the cabinets once you purchase them from Home Depot.
Woodmark does offer a warranty on all their cabinets. They say that they are free of any defects in workmanship and materials for the life of your home. However, be sure to read the fine print of the warranty. As it stands now it is only good for the original purchaser of the cabinets so the warranty does not stay with the cabinets if you sell the house. The cabinets are only warrantied for residential use and no commercial use.
If there is something wrong with the cabinet or cabinets and you want the warranty to step in then please be aware that it does not cover the cost of having a contractor come in and remove the cabinets or reinstall the new ones. This can be a sizable cost the homeowner will face if the product is defective.
The warranty also does not cover any damage done to the cabinets after installation. It will not cover normal use wear, dings, dents, scratches, or any other problems that might occur from every day use.
There is one major thing that I like and appreciate about American Woodmark cabinets and that is that they are environmentally friendly. American Woodmark has received certification by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program on all their cabinet products which is quite impressive.
American Woodmark works closely with all their suppliers to always maintain forestry renewal and sustainable forestry. All the wood doors, drawer fronts and cabinet front frames are made from only American grown hardwoods. All the particle board and plywood are purchased from suppliers for use in Woodmark cabinets meet the Composite Panel Association requirements for Environmentally Preferable Products including formaldehyde emissions that comply with ANSI Standards. This guarantees your family a safe environment free of toxic chemical levels that other cabinets sometimes have.
Woodmark also has a foundation that they utilize to help a vast array of charities called American Woodmark Foundation. This makes a person feel that at least a bit of their purchase money goes back into the community for the benefit of others.

Reviews for the American Woodmark cabinets are mixed. Many people adore them and others feel they are shoddy. I personally find them to be a nice, fairly durable cabinet for the price. They are very reasonable to purchase and they look fantastic when installed. They would probably not stand up to extremely rough handling but the majority of people treat their cabinets gently. Perhaps if you were placing them in an apartment complex or a rental house they would not stand up well but for the average home owner who values their house these cabinets work wonderfully.
