San Francisco is a city known for its hill and spectacular views. It also makes a wonderful vacation destination due to its wonderful museums, restaurants and attractions. This labor day why not consider a trip to San Francisco?
There are quite a few events scheduled to take place this Labor Day which falls on Monday, September 7th. For those who like to take a walk on the “wild side,” the Dudley Perkins Company (which sells Harley Davidson motorcycles) is having their annual labor day open house in which interested parties are able to get up close and personal to the bikes while enjoying great bar-b-que and drinks. For a look into another form of hard labor in honor of Labor Day, a trip to Alcatraz Island located in the San Francisco Bay, is hard to beat! As many of you readers may know, Alcatraz was a federal government penitentiary that housed convicted criminals from July of 1934 until March of 1963. Several famous criminals such as Al Capone were housed at Alcatraz. The island is open every day which the exception of Christmas and New Year’s. The Alcatraz Cruises website allows you to purchase tickets for the cruise to the island and its various tours (such as an audio tour or an after dark tour).
For those readers who prefer something a little more “classical,” there is free Shakespeare in the park which is part of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. On Labor Day there is a performance of William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors.” The play take’s place in San Francisco’s Presidio Park at 2:30 pm at 34 Graham Street. The performance is free and you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch.
For those looking to combine their trip to San Francisco with a visit to wine country, then the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is for you. It takes place on Labor Day weekend beginning on Friday, September 4th. There are approximately 150 wineries participating and offering activities such as educational seminars, food demonstrations and a wine auction which benefits several local charities. Sonoma County is located just one hour away from San Francisco.
San Francisco is a spectacular city and any of these activities would make a wonderful addition to your Labor Day itinerary. In addition to allowing you to experience sites that normally would not be seen on a typical tourist jaunt.
