Right now a lot of people are asking themselves, “Where is Lady Gaga from?” She seems to have dropped right out of the sky in2008, and since then she is everywhere. With the obviously fake name “Lady Gaga” it is hard to intuitively pin down her heritage, but thanks to the internets, we can now state conclusively where she is from, and we even have pictures of her in high school (they popped up on the web February 28, 2010): http://www.gather.com/viewImage.action?fileId=3096224746255545&articleId=281474978074287&grpId=3659174697259616
Where is Lady Gaga From?
The singer known as Lady Gaga is from Yonkers, New York. Her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Source: Wikipedia, “Lady Gaga”, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Gaga, 15 November 2009.
In case you are unfamiliar with New York geography, here is a map of Yonkers, courtesy of Mapquest: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Yonkers&state=NY. As you will see, Yonkers is north of Manhattan, but sufficiently close to accommodate anyone interested in frequenting the crowded dance clubs.
What was Lady Gaga’s Childhood Like?
Lady Gaga’s official website gives the following summary of her childhood:
When Lady Gaga was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton. That sounds pretty innocent, but if you have seen Lady Gaga (and how could you not? she’s everywhere), you know that she is not the typical Italian girl from Yonkers.
Where is Lady Gaga Going?
At the moment, the most interesting question is not “Where is Lady Gaga From?” but “Where is lady Gaga Going?” Is she a flash in the pan, or is she here to stay? Is she popular because of her outrageous costumes and bizarre rumors, or do people like her music enough to give her the Madonna-like career she must be hoping for?
Of course Lady Gaga is just a stage name – a fiction. One answer to the question, “Where is Lady Gaga from?” is “Nowhere.” But if Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta from Yonkers plays her cards right, Lady Gaga might become just as dominant as Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and the others she listened to as a child.
