Forgotten to get yourself a Halloween costume? Left it too late to buy one off the shelf? Discovered today that last year’s costume doesn’t fit anymore? Fear not! You’re in luck. Here are a few tips on how to create a last minute Halloween costume:
Decide what you want to be
Search the web for ideas on what you kind of get-up you want. Google various Halloween costume websites and decide on what, or who, you want to be. To be on the safe side, look at more than one costume ideas. You can look at websites like www.hallowexpress.com for costume ideas.
Make a list of the items required for the costume
Once you have decided what you want to be, make a list of the items you will need for the costume such as wigs, makeup, clothes, cape etc. Make a detailed list, keeping in mind that you will need to pick out everything from your closet. Alongside, tick the items that you have readily available.
See what you have at home
Now that you have the list ready, start digging around your closet for what you can use. Look at old stuff in the attic, scarves and stoles for capes, old masks that you can paint over and recreate, wigs that you can recolor, cut and give a whole new look to.
Call your friends
After having gone through your own stuff, if you’re still short of a few items, call your friends for help. Check out whether they have old Halloween costumes from which you can borrow items. You can also check with them whether they have a better fit for any of the items you are not totally satisfied with.
Get your costume together
Go right now and collect the items from your friends if you anything to collect. You really don’t have much time left. Make any adjustments that are required, like re-colouring or cutting your wigs, painting your masks, stitching in buttons into that old shirt.
Buy any items you can’t make or borrow
Don’t have the time to paint over your old mask? None of your friends have the right fit? Go get yourself one from Walmart. Can’t find the fake teeth you wore last year? Pick one up from the nearest store.
Use lots of makeup
People often forget the power of makeup. Use lots of it on your hair and face to make up for the last minute costume. Look at the picture of the costume you decided to copy and if you can’t find the mask you were looking for or don’t have the time to go out and buy one, paint one over your face with make up. Don’t have a wig? Blow-dry your hair into the right hairdo and use lots of styling gel to keep the hairdo in place.
And Voila! You have a Halloween costume ready and it was almost free of cost! Now don’t go doing this next year! But even if you do, you can use the same tricks next year. Have a scaaaarrrryyyy Halloween!
