While some may associate the romanticism of coming to New York City and seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, others are met with the far more practical issues at hand, such as cost. It’s expensive to stay in Manhattan; it’s expensive to stay in most accessible points in the boroughs; it’s even expensive to stay in New Jersey! However one oft not considered option is going a little further out; beyond Queens County, out past Sheepshead Bay, past Far Rockaway, and staying in Nassau County Long Island.
Nassau County is very close to New York City and the trains run extra on Thanksgiving Day. The total trip depending on where you’re coming from is just under or over an hour and you’ll be dropped off right at Penn Station. The Long Island Rail Road trains are far better than having to take the subway down from the Bronx or out from Queen as you’d more than likely have to transfer or walk quite a distance. Penn Station is primo real estate when you’re talking about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
For purposes of this discussion of where to stay the night before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, we’ll talk about hotels only in proximity to the LIRR station stops in Nassau County.
Days Inn Copiague: Right off of the Sunrise Highway and just a few short blocks from the Copiague station of the LIRR is the Days Inn Copiague (10 34th Street Copiague New York, 11726. 631-842-4700. Also located just a short two miles from the train station, the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel & Conference Center is a very well appointed property. Come to New York for the parade; stay in Glen Cove for the Mansion Hotel. The only caveat to this location in Nassau County is the proximity from Manhattan (train ride is about an hour) But if you really want to stay somewhere special that’s unlike other hotels, the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel & Conference Center is a great option.
New York City is magical around the holiday time; if you’re looking to spend a little less and live a little more, making Nassau County your home base on your Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade excursion is a great choice.
