Mad Men is a very original series that got its start back in July 2007 for AMC, and has been drawing critical acclaim ever since that day. The show covers one of New York’s most prestigious advertising agencies during the beginning of the 1960’s, and mainly focuses on one of the firm’s most mysterious and talented advertising executives, Donald Draper. Don Draper is played by Jon Hamm, who has also received a lot of praise for his role as the man at the top, and continues to show his range as an actor with the part. His smoldering good looks may bring in viewers on their own, but the viewers stick around for the great story telling that the creators of the show have become known for presenting.
There are many recognizable supporting characters in Mad Men who have really placed themselves in the spotlight with great acting on the show. Included in that group are Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Bryan Batt, Aaron Staton, Christina Hendricks, and the unforgettable January Jones. The awards have really rained down on Mad Men and AMC since the show premiered, and that includes wins at the Golden Globes as well as the Emmy Awards. At the 2008 Emmy Awards, Mad Men won for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Art Direction, Outstanding Writing, and for two other awards categories. For the 2009 Emmy Awards, Mad Men has been nominated for 16 Emmy Awards.
For all of the acclaim and prestige that Mad Men has been receiving, they certainly aren’t winning anything in the ratings. The show struggles to keeps its viewership numbers up according to the Nielsen ratings, so fans of the show will need to make sure that they are tuning in to make sure that Mad Men can make it to a fourth season. It all gets started on the night of August 16th and the season will run every Sunday at 10:00 PM PST and EST until the Mad Men season finale.
