Mental Depression is Curable
Depression is an illness that may seem easy to treat but in reality, a person cannot get over it as easily as the common cold. Depression interrupts an individuals daily life and is suffered by at least 10% of the population of the United States.
Depression fortunately can be cured, especially when diagnosed early, depressed individuals can be treated through medication and therapy.
It is common in the lives of most individuals to have feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and discouragement, as a result unexpected events. The loss of a loved one, loss of a pet, or loss of employment are only a few of the reasons for occasional feelings of despair.
Depression is much deeper and is a very serious illness that can effect a persons total health. The depressed person cannot reason with themselves or grasp the depth of their despair. Depression takes away a persons self-confidence and destroys their zest for living resulting in the individual becoming even more depressed.
The desire for isolation may overcome the individual which makes it difficult for others to recognize the symptoms of depression. Other common symptoms are severe mood swings, crying, headaches, fits of temper, changes in sleep patterns, dietary changes, or losing interest in normal activities.
When family or friends begin to notice changes in an individuals personality its likely that the depression has deepened enough to threaten their physical health. Engage in conversation with the depressed person and listen carefully and don’t be judgmental. The person suffering from depression needs the reinforcement of their value and acceptance among their family and friends.
If the symptoms of depression become so extreme that the individual can no longer cope with daily life, is totally unhappy, and no longer has the desire to live it is time to seek immediate professional treatment.
It is possible that depression may be the direct cause of medications, food allergies, or other physical ailments. If the individual is under either physical or mental health care, inform their doctor of any mood changes. Request an evaluation of the medications in their current treatment that may be the cause of depression.
Depression must not be allowed to destroy the human spirit, life is to be enjoyed. therefore, total expressions of love and understanding are very important in helping an individual to regain their self-esteem. With proper treatment depression can be eliminated and the enjoyment of life can be recovered.
