When my daughter was young, my diaper cream of choice was Desitin. The ingredient that helped Desitin work so well, in my opinion, was zinc oxide, which protected my babies bottom and formed a water proof barrier between her skin and the diaper.
I was recently introduced to a great new, mostly natural diaper cream made by the Method company, called Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream.
Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream comes in a tall tubular shaped container, which holds 5.4 ounces. It’s white with a pale green cap, and has a pump style lid. When you remove the clear cap, you will see a small plastic plug inserted into end of the pump, and this has to be removed before you can pump any of the product out.
Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (10%) (Skin Protectant)
Inactive Ingredients: Althaea Officinalis Extract, Capric/Caprylic Triglycerides, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Decylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Water/Aqua, Xanthan Gum.
When I used Desitin for my babies diaper rash, it worked quite effectively, but the consistency was very thick, and it was sticky making it hard to wash off of a babies bottom.
Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream looks similar at first, it is also colored white, and has the smell of zinc oxide (in my opinion). The pump dispenses a small marble sized amount, but the consistency is much thinner (more like a face cream), and very soft, smooth and luxurious. It is so much easier to smooth onto a babies bottom, and unlike my experience with Desitin, the Method brand is much easier to remove from a babies skin. Because this is a thinner zinc oxide diaper cream, I feel it does go a little bit further and last longer, because it’s easy to apply in a thinner film.
The Method website refers to their Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream as being 95% natural, soothing, talc-free diaper cream that keeps baby’s bum soft and protected. It’s gentle, non-irritating, hypo-allergenic and pediatrician tested.
I am a supporter of all natural products, and I do like what I see being used in the Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream. What it doesn’t contain are any ingredients that numb the skin, and there are no parabens or phthalates in this formula.
Just like Desitin worked well for my babies diaper rash, so does this Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream. It’s a good preventative for warding off a diaper rash in the first place, but if the dreaded diaper rash has already appeared, it also works to heal it up, and give baby some relief from the pain associated with such a condition. Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream is gentle, non irritating, hypo-allergenic, and pediatrician approved.
The retail price for Method Squeaky Clean Diaper Cream is $7.00, and if you want the best for your baby, you will probably agree with me that this is not a bad price for such a quality product.
