From my 5th favorite to my very favorite, here is a list of my Top 5 picks for best Christmas movies ever. It’s the holiday season and we all use movies and media to get us in a cheerful mood. It’s about giving, about family and about love.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)- In this delightful cartoon, Charlie finds himself tired of the materialism that everyone feels during the Christmas season. He wants to bring the true meaning of the season back and agrees to direct the school’s Christmas pageant. He becomes distressed when his sad little fir tree doesn’t do the trick. But in the end Charlie will share the true spirit of the season with his friends. “I don’t care. We’ll decorate it and it’ll be just right for our play. Besides, I think it needs me.”
Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)- The original, animated Grinch movie is by far the best. The Whos in Whoville have to try to stop a grouchy hermit from spoiling Christmas. He disguises himself as Santa and his little dog as a reindeer, but a little girl in pig tails makes him see the light. The Grinch was voiced by Boris Karloff in this classic cartoon. “I must stop this whole thing! Why, for fifty-three years I’ve put up with it now. I must stop Christmas from coming… but how?”
Black Christmas (1975)- If you are a horror flick fan, like me, you will love this movie. And the 2006 remake has nothing on the original. Sorority sisters are harassed and killed by a psycho on Christmas Break. There’s no blood and gore in this classic horror film, just suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you happy you are with your family for the holidays! “Little baby bunting/Daddy’s went a-hunting/Gonna fetch a rabbit skin to wrap his baby Agnes in.”
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)- Classic Tim Burton, in this movie the pumpkin king of Halloween town, Jack Skellington, finds a door that leads to Christmas Town. He is confused by this place and it’s bright happiness, so he kidnaps Santa and tries to bring Christmas to his own home. “Eureka! This year, Christmas will be – OURS!”
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)- My all-time favorite Christmas movie. I absolutely love Jimmy Stewart and in this movie he shines as George Bailey, a man who feels he has failed at life and failed his family until an angel, Clarence, take him on a trip that shows him what life would be like for his little town of Bedford Falls if he’d have never existed. “Look, Daddy. Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.”
