NCIS fans know that this show, year after year, continues to reward its viewers with the most exciting season finales, leaving their fans desperate to see what happens next. It may be only a couple of weeks away, but I cannot wait until September 22nd, when CBS brings us the season premiere of NCIS. Here is a quick recap to refresh your memory of what happened last spring.
The series, as usual, worked its way up to the finale over several episodes, revealing a relationship between Mossad agent, Michael Rivkin, and Ziva (Cote de Pablo). Episodes 22 and 23 brought the team to Los Angeles, which nicely introduced us to the cast of CBS’s new show NCIS: Los Angeles. The episodes centered on an arms dealer and when Rivkin shows up, he claims he is in the states investigating a terrorist cell. Ziva vouches for his identity but doesn’t indicate that they have a relationship. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) suggests Rivkin head back to Isreal.
Much of episode 24 is spent investigating the murder of a guard who was on duty at a secret meeting between the FBI, CIA and ICE, temporarily making Director Vance (Rocky Carroll), who was scoping out the meeting, look like the guilty party. The team discovers the death was an accident, and when they find the man responsible, an international terrorist and cell handler, Abin Tabal, he has already committed suicide. When Tony (Michael Weatherly) discovers that Rivkin is still in DC, he suspects that there was more to this situation, and that Rivkin is involved. Tony tells Gibbs that Rivkin is in DC, and both express concern. Gibbs tells Tony to stay on top of him, and Abby (Pauley Perrette) finds a connection to Ziva’s apartment on Tabal’s laptop. When Tony goes to Ziva’s apartment to question her about it, he finds Rivkin instead. Tony attempts to take him into custody, and a struggle ensues. Tony ends up shooting Rivkin, who dies just before Ziva walks in.
In episode 25, Tony must defend his actions to Gibbs and Director Vance, as well as Ziva. Under normal circumstances, Tony never should have been able to get the best of Rivkin, but Rivkin’s blood alcohol level was at .16, greatly impairing his reaction time. Convinced that Tony’s actions were justified, Vance brings Tony, Gibbs and Ziva to Isreal to meet with the Director of Mossad, Eli David. The director is also Ziva’s father. During a heated interrogation, Tony manages to get the Director to admit that Rivkin’s actions were sanctioned by the Mossad.
As they set off to return to the US, Ziva tells Gibbs that she is not sure she can continue to work with Tony. Gibbs gives her a kiss on the cheek and boards the plane. Back in DC, Vance suggests to Gibbs that Ziva’s loyalty will serve them well with her back at Mossad, while Gibbs worries for her safety in her father’s care. The episode ends as a beaten and battered Ziva is instructed by her captor to, “Tell me everything you know about NCIS”.
Who will save Ziva? Does her father have a hand in what is happening to her? Where do her loyalties lie? I’m counting the minutes….
