With the upcoming fall preview season quickly approaching, I have selected 5 shows from various networks that I feel will not be very popular with the viewers.
This show will air on NBC, Wednesdays at 8 pm. First of all Wednesday nights have never been a very popular television night. I can’t help but believe that NBC is trying in a failed attempt to replace ER with another hospital drama. This show is from the creators of Friday Night Lights and Pushing Daisies, Liz Heldens and Grethchen Berg. The show will premier Wednesday September 23rd at 8pm. From the synopsis on the NBC website, the action seems to center around the nurses of the hospital. The cast is nothing to write home about either. You may get a little boost from Delroy Lindo as Dr. Alfred Parks and the ladies may enjoy Dr Chris Sands, played by James Tupper. Overall, I do not foresee this one being even close to the WOW factor we got from the premier of ER. It’s not even in the same league. Sorry NBC for a sloppy attempt at replacing and irreplaceable.
This show will air on ABC on Wednesdays at 8pm as well. The premier date is September 30th. Other than having Kelsey Grammer in a leading role, this show doesn’t have much going for it. A CEO from Wall St. losing his job may be current but is it something we want to be reminded of weekly? Finding comedic moments in a story line that follows a families fall and struggle to adjust to small town American life is at best difficult and not a good source for humor. Maybe the economy isn’t the best thing to laugh at right now.
Accidentally on Purpose
This is supposed to be a comedy about an older woman who has a one night stand with a younger guy, then becomes pregnant as a result. She decides to keep the baby. Even though it stars Golden Globe winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, the woman in “that” kind of way, I don’t’ feel this show sends the message we need to be sending today. It’s telling everyone that it’s ok to have sex on first dates and if you happen to get knocked up that’s ok too. The show will be on Mondays at 830 pm. I am not a big fan of the whole older woman, younger man relationship and adding an unplanned pregnancy doesn’t sweeten the pot for me. This is one doomed to flop.
Are you serious? Another reality show by none other than Mark Burnett, I can’t look! After watching Joan Rivers turn into the wicked witch of the west on the last Apprentice I don’t know if I can stomach a show entitled “Shark Tank”. The idea is that 5 self made millionaires are looking for an up and coming entrepreneur to back. Each week business concepts will be presented to these investors, hoping to convince them to invest in their idea. If it sounds a little too much like the Apprentice meets American’s Top Inventors, that’s because essentially that is what the show is. I really don’t see any originality and don’t predict this one will “sell”. It will be on ABC Tuesday September 29th but the premier will be August 9th at 9pm.
Do Not Disturb
This show will be on FOX Wednesdays at 9:30. The pitch is an upscale hotel, the center for this so called comedy. Focusing on the staff and all the different personalities they each have. This is supposed to be one of the top 10 hotels in the Big Apple. With workplace clashes and goofs there doesn’t seem to be much of a story line to work with. I feel this is one of those fill in shows they use around American Idol on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Jerry O’Connell will play the part of Neal, the hotel general manager. There will be guest appearances by R. J. the hotel owner, played by none other than Robert Wagner. I foresee it won’t be long until Do Not Disturb will be checking out of FOX for good.
