She woke slowly, stretched and yawned. Well, here it is October again, another birthday coming. At least October doesn’t bring the depression it used to bring she thought.
I guess the passing of another year always brings reflection. October was Mothers birthday month too. Mom has been gone over 25 years now, it hardly seems possible. Dad has been gone over 10. Funny how it doesn’t matter how old a person is when you lose your second parents you feel like an orphan.
Enough of that she scolded herself. But still she can’t help thinking how much her life has changed over the past year. When she thinks about what her life used to be like ten years ago she isn’t even sure who that person was. Way back when her husband was still working second shift. When she stayed up until all hours and slept in until noon. Not that she spent too much time sleeping after all she did stay up late working on her crafts and things, no she wasn’t lazy she reassured herself.
But what happened to that life? And once again she had to remind herself that this life was so much better, even if it did make her tired just thinking about all that her days hold now. No time for that old depression these days and that is a very good thing. For just a few minutes she thought about the depression, about how she didn’t care about how much weight she gained. She didn’t care that all that fat was hurting her. She didn’t care that she was dishonoring God by the way she looked. Now when she thought about it she could see how her not caring must have saddened her Savior. He had created this body He had given her to live in and she was not taking very good care of it. Well, He was taking care of that Himself. God has such a sense of humor, filling her life with so many friends who care so much. And He made available programs that help encourage people to live for Him. Put Christ first, yes that was what the diet program He brought into her life was all about. And she thought it was about weight loss. What would she do without Celebrate Recovery where she had learned the problem wasn’t the eating but why she was eating. Once again she thought about the hole in her life and how He had come in and filled the hole making her whole in the process. Yes, she served an amazing God.
Well, she didn’t have time to lay around now; there was a blessed grandchild to get to the bus stop. What a joy it is to have them living with her. If she was going to get the Bible read before leaving the house she had to get up now and so she did.
