Ole Miss vs. South Carolina is a game that should not be missed. Ole Miss vs. South Carolina takes place on Thursday, September 24th, and it all airs live on ESPN. This is going to be the SEC opener for Ole Miss, but a very tough match-up as they have to travel to South Carolina. This is going to be one of those early season games that football fans do not want to miss, and one which could already have some post-season implications stamped on it in just the first few weeks of the young college football season. On paper this should be an easy game for Ole Miss, as they are the #4 team in the country, but this is why they play the games.
South Carolina sits at 2-1 this season, but they could have easily been 3-0 after barely getting beat out by Georgia back on September 12th. That game could be one that they look back on in disdain if they can really play well for the rest of the season. One of the reasons that they are doing well is sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia, who has a passer rating of 124.78 so far this season, to go along with 683 passing yards. He could be in the elite company of the best in the SEC this season, but is so young that people are going to have to see them prove it first. They will have that chance live on ESPN this Thursday night.
Don’t think that the SEC is strong this season? Well right now they have the #1, #3, #4, #7, and #21 teams in the rankings. Ole Miss comes in to tonight’s game with a 2-0 record, but this will be their first game against the SEC this season. They beat up on Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana in a couple of games against sub-par competition, and will face their first test against South Carolina. They were able to outscore opponents to a tune of 97-20, but they really haven’t been tested. That will make this game interesting, because quite a few analysts that have been talking on ESPN aren’t sure that Ole Miss is for real yet. That #4 ranking is pretty high for them, and as other majors have had at least one test, Ole Miss still needs to prove them.
The Ole Miss vs. South Carolina game takes center stage on ESPN starting at 4:30 P.M. PST on Thursday, September 24th. At question is whether either team belongs near the top of the rankings, and with a really tough season ahead for both of these teams, including games against LSU and Alabama, this game becomes very important for the early season conference standings. The stage is set, the players are ready, and now one of these teams is about to earn a lot of respect from the world of college football.
