Patrick Kane was arrested Sunday morning. Patrick Kane was arrested and charged with theft of services, criminal mischief and robbery in the second degree after an altercation with a cab driver early Sunday morning. The Patrick Kane arrest is coming as a shock to fans of the Chicago Blackhawks, the team that Patrick Kane plays for in the NHL. While taking a cab ride early Sunday morning, apparently Patrick Kane and his cousin James M. Kane were involved in an incident where the cab driver couldn’t give the correct change. This allegedly resulted in Patrick Kane becoming upset with the cab driver, leading to an escalation of the event, and the arrest of Patrick Kane.
Patrick Kane was the #1 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, and is a forward for the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. He is only 20-years-old, and is considered by many to be an up-and-coming star of the NHL that just needs some more seasoning. It is incidents like this one that can derail a professional career though, when what should have been a non-issue turns into a police report. Instead this is going to go down as Kane being unable to control himself or his temper, and if the charges all turn out to be true, Kane could possibly be facing jail time for the altercation, and could be lucky that there aren’t even stiffer charges being levied again him and his brother.
The Patrick Kane arrest occurred at around 5:00 A.M. EST on Sunday morning when the cab driver that Kane had been riding with reported a crime. According to the police report, Patrick Kane and cousin James M. Kane were taken into custody after allegedly punching the cab driver and taking the $15.00 fare that they had given him. The incident all seems to stem from the cab drivers inability to give 20 cents in change for a $14.80 fare that was paid with $15.00. It seems to have enraged Patrick Kane, who allegedly hit the cab driver in the face, breaking his glasses, and then hitting him again in the head and grabbing the cab driver by the throat. This is a tough charge to be facing, and at the same time, it is a bit surprising that Kane isn’t up for assault charges as well.
Patrick Kane is now an NHL star, and even if he is only 20-years-old, is expected to behave better than the charges allege that he has been acting. It’s possible that Kane could face jail time for the charges that are being brought against him, but it is very likely that it will end up with a plea agreement putting him on a suspended sentence or probation with some sort of community service. Either way, the story is probably going to end up being something where a celebrity gets to do what they want, and not really face stiff consequences for taking violent actions into their own hands. If what Patrick Kane did is true, it’s going to be a rough season of distractions for the Chicago Blackhawks and one of their star players.
