A Penn State student has been found dead on campus. The Penn State student is apparently the victim of a tragic accident that has already taken people from the University campus by surprise. The Penn State students name is Joseph Dado, and he had been missing for more than a day. The unfortunate news came late on Monday when the body of Joseph Dado was discovered. This is a very sad ending to the life of Joseph Dado, and an extremely tragic event that seems like it could have been avoided. It’s also a terrible way for the campus to open its new school year, but that is a minor detail in this story.
Joseph Dado was an 18-year-old Freshman at Penn State University who had been majoring in engineering. He had recently graduated from Greater Latrobe Senior High School according to KDKA News out of Pittsburgh, and was on campus for his first year as a student. Dado had been at Phi Gamma Delta late on Saturday night, and was last seen at about 3 A.M. leaving the house. He didn’t show up back as his room in one of the residence halls, and when he didn’t answer phone calls or e-mails it started to worry friends. Typically it isn’t that odd for a student to miss e-mails for about a day if they get busy in college, and even spending the night outside of their own room wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary.
The tragic news that Joseph Dado had died started breaking on Monday night, when at about 6:00 P.M. maintenance workers found Dado in a stairwell to one of the campus buildings. Early reports are indicating that he fell about 15 feet down the stairwell, but that has yet to be confirmed by the investigation that is sure to be on-going. Whether alcohol was involved or not is also surely going to be a question asked by the authorities as they try to piece together Dado’s last few hours. Dado came from a family that cared a lot about him, and they were actually on campus passing out flyers to try and find him on Monday. Now they are going to be left with even more questions about how this could have happened.
In March of 2008 another student was found dead by his roommates, and that was added to a report that a student also died in October of 2007 on campus. Unfortunately yet another student passed away in May of 2009 just below Abrams Falls. This is a community that has already been reeling from the deaths of students in the past, and this is just another tragic accident that probably could have been prevented if his path home had been altered even slightly. That won’t change the fact that he leaves behind a saddened community, family, and friends that have lost one of their own.
