Girls’ Generation (So Nyuh Shi Dae) is a famous Korean girl group consisting of 9 members namely (in no particular order), Yoona, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, TaeYeon, SeoHyun, Yuri, HyoYeon, and Soo Young. Currently, they are really becoming quite famous across the world. Locally, here in the Philippines, the girls have made quite an impression to their Filipino fans. Upon the release of their latest mini-album (2nd Mini-Album which features the song “Genie”), their fans started to grow probably exponentially. Their exposure in the local scene has put them atop almost every other artist/performer.
Before their album was released here, the girls were already making waves in other countries and there are just a few Filipino fans. Now that their album is on local shelves, more people get to know them and somehow, their charisma is top-notch that even non-Korean pop fans became avid followers of the group.
The 2nd mini-album was the first to be released here. It was out early October. There are several other compilations that were released in other countries and the fans are really hoping all of them would be released locally since it’s quite difficult for a lot of fans to acquire it from international stores or online shops.
Just a few days after its release, a very famous local video store presented the fact that Girls’ Generation’s album has made it to the top of the charts beating all other albums in terms of sales. This garnered them a lot of votes in the local music channel Myx and at the time of writing, the girls are now on the 2nd spot of its daily countdown. In probably a few days, the girls may finally hit number 1.
In online communities such as forums dedicated to the girls, it is evident that the Filipino fan-base is really strong. There is all out support for the girls and even though their CDs are hard to purchase, a lot of Filipino fans worked hard to acquire them. Aside from that, they show their passion to fellow fans and non-fans alike. But of course, there are some detractors that say bad things about the girls but that didn’t even make the fans budge and the support for the girls got even bigger.
Well, I am an avid fan myself and I fully support the girls. They do have talents and it crosses singing and dancing to acting and hosting and more. It shows their versatility and fans really love that. It’s not only their looks but how they perform as individuals and as a group. Girls’ Generation is dear to its Filipino fans and the fire and passion will probably stay for a very very long time.
