Pregnancy Diet and Weight Gain During Pregnancy

by sawpan

Weight gain during pregnancy is a major concern for a lot of women. Eating the correct pregnancy diet will ensure that you don’t gain too much weight. Once the baby arrives, it will be hard for you to lose the amount of your weight gain during pregnancy. Here are five pieces of information that will help keep your pregnancy diet in check.

Weight Gain During Pregnancy: How much is enough?

Eating for two is not rational when the second person is the size of a grain of sand. Your pregnancy diet should include eating 100-300 additional calories each day. Women of a healthy weight should no more than 45 pounds during their pregnancy.

Pregnancy Diet: How to Eat Extra Calories

The easiest way to eat an extra 100-300 calories a day is to eat a Lean Cuisine or diet TV dinner. Most of these meals are pretty healthy and have no more than 300 calories. If this doesn’t sound good to you, consider drinking a small glass of fruit juice or an extra glass of milk. Eating for two does not mean chowing down at every single meal.

Weight Gain During Pregnancy: What if I gain too much?

If you gain too much weight too fast during pregnancy, you shouldn’t try to lose any weight. Losing weight during pregnancy is not good for the baby. Try to make healthier food choices and adjust your pregnancy diet if you notice the scales going up too fast. Stick with lean meats such as grilled chicken and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Weight Gain During Pregnancy: Where does it all go?

According to WebMD, 19 pounds of your weight gain will go to the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid, and uterus increase. About 12 pounds will go to increased breast tissue and fat stores. The balance will go to increased blood supply. Despite what you may feel, your weight gain during pregnancy is not all going in your behind.

Pregnancy Diet: Foods to Avoid

According to the American Pregnancy Association, your pregnancy diet should not include deli meat, soft cheeses, unpasteurized milk, and pate because they could contain listeria. Seafood, fish, and raw eggs are all pregnancy diet no-no’s as well. Caffeine and alcohol should also be avoided during pregnancy, as they could cause miscarriage or withdrawal symptoms in your baby.

Weight gain during pregnancy is going to happen whether you want it to or not. For once in your life this weight gain should be very much welcomed. Making sure your pregnancy diet is full of healthy foods and that you avoid foods that could cause problems for you or your baby is important as well. Don’t worry about losing weight while pregnant. Worry about losing the weight once your baby is born and you feel better again.
