A pregnant woman is pregnant again, which isn’t a shock these days. However, this pregnant woman is pregnant again under unusual circumstances. Julie Grovenburg was already expecting a baby girl, but now the pregnant woman is pregnant again with another child – and the two children aren’t twins. The case of the pregnant woman being pregnant again sounds like something they would make up on House, but this medical mystery of ‘superfetation’ is a bit more true, and more stunning.
Julie Grovenburg went to her doctor in Arkansas earlier this week, as the pregnant woman got an ultrasound of her growing baby girl, already named Jillian. But the doctor wound up discovering a growing baby boy inside of Mrs. Grovenburg – and the boy isn’t a twin.
The doctor concluded that Julie and Todd Grovenburg actually conceived another child a few weeks after the baby girl was conceived. Conceiving again while pregnant is supposed to be nearly impossible, yet this pregnant woman is pregnant again thanks to a rare case of ‘superfetation.’
The condition of superfetation is said to have only happened about 10 times before, according to Dr. Karen Boyle of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Such a rare condition could cause some worries about the babies’ future and any pregnancy complications. But doctors are confident that both babies will be born okay, since they were conceived so closely together.
Of course, since the babies were conceived on different dates, there is the worry of whether they will be born on the same day, and whether Julie Grovenburg will still be pregnant after giving birth to Jillian. The due date for the boy, who is already named Hudson, is early 2010 while Jillian is due in late 2009, though that is subject to change.
With this case of a pregnant woman being pregnant again before she even gives birth, it raises the bar in baby making news. The Duggards, Gosselins and so many other large families have made news for their large families. But for all their talents in making babies, they’ve never made twins like this before.
It is a wonder that TLC isn’t already on the phone with the Grovenburgs, looking to make a series out of this – at least not yet. House could probably rip it from the headlines, if they’re short on bizarre medical storylines in its sixth season.
Since there is about four months left before the first of the superfetation babies are born, this pregnancy story seems to still be in the conception stage itself.
