This article is based on an observation from my online gameplay with my Internet pals.
For the background, I play an online game called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (COD: MW). It is a First Person Shooter (FPS). The Call of Duty series was, before the release of this current game, all based on WWII. All the action took place in WWII. One could play as an ally or an axis team member. If one was on the Allied side they were a Brit or American fighting in Europe; if one were an Axis player, they were a German.
In the WWII iterations of the game many folks called themselves Piper, or Skorzeny, or Himmler and some even called themselves Hitler. It was, after all, a WWII game, so no biggie, right?
Yesterday I was online playing COD: MW and some cat called themselves Hitler. So some other player types into public chat and says “HITLER – you need to change your name – it’s racist!” “Hitler” asked why, and I jokingly typed into public chat “No Nazi’s, no Commies…fair is fair.” I was joking, but an astute player typed in to reply to me, “No one makes anyone change their name when they play under the name “Stalin!””
DEAD ON RIGHT! So what gives? Why is the player name Adolf Hitler racist? And why is it okay to call oneself Stalin, but not Hitler?
This is about perception, and most egregiously, MISTAKEN PERCEPTION.
It CANNOT be because Hitler is a monumental murderer – Stalin has Hitler beat by a mile in that category. Even the later Soviets admit Stalin killed more then 20 MILLION of his own citizens from 1924 until his death on March 5, 1953, so that can be it. Hitler can’t hold a candle to that, so it can’t be the infamous murderer thing, right?
No, it was clearly because someone claimed the player name Hitler was racist – THAT IS WHAT THEY WROTE, so no need to debate that point. Now I must ask “WHY?”
As well, I heard on the radio yesterday that someone somewhere went to a fancy golf course and etched into the 18th green the name OBAMA and a SWASTIKA beside it. Now the Secret Service is involved. Why? As well, some claimed the swastika and the name Obama was in some way racist. Say what?
Sorry folks, but a political symbol next to a person’s name IS NOT RACISM – not in any way, means, shape or form. It is a political statement. So why are the Secret Service involved? The picture of the swastika and all was on Drudge yesterday. There were no threats made against Obama – just his name and a swastika. WTF is going on up in here?
Why is the Secret Service involved in investigating political speech, albeit it vandalism, but this is the first I have ever heard about the Secret Service investigating vandalism. Did I miss something? A swastika is political speech. Now if someone had etched a noose into the 18th green with Obama’s name, that would be worthy of the Secret Service looking into, but political speech? BS!
This is a dangerous and slippery slope. Political speech is NOT worthy of the Secret Service involvement – none whatsoever. Threats, yes. Political symbols and the Great One’s name, no!
For the record, I don’t really give a rat’s ass either way, but on a philosophical and on a factual and honest level, this presents problems. Does the reader see the problem?
Hitler is painted FALSELY as an extreme far end Righty, when the truth is the Nazi’s were NATIONAL SOCIALISTS – get it? SOCIALISTS! Of course Stalin is accepted as a far end Lefty. And in the perception of one or two of these dolts I was online with yesterday, extreme Leftism – COMMUNISM is A-OK, but ALLEGED extreme rightism is not. Huh? Piss poor perception folks.
For the record, here are the facts, not that it will make any difference.
Hitler and the Nazi’s were SOCIALISTS – they even named their movement the NATIONAL SOCIALIST WORKER’S PARTY – SOCIALISTS, with a very strong nationalistic bent, but SOCIALISTS nonetheless. Of course Communists, STALIN, the Bolsheviks and the boys were SOCIALISTS as well.
To a modern day Progressive and their complete lack of grasp on factual history, they paint Hitler and Nazism as a wing of Conservatism. The truth is the political spectrum is not so much a straight line, but really a circle. At the top of the circle we find EXTREMISTS – Communists and Fascists, which the Nazi were surely fascist. But the Bolsheviks were Fascist as well.
Fascism is a more a manner of rule then it is a political ideological identifier, yet the Lefties and their control over media and the education system have very neatly pigeon-holed Nazi’s into the broad conglomeration of Conservatism. What BS.
To prove that the Left’s incessant drive and effort in doing these things is clear, evidence the comments I cited from yesterday’s events.
The name Hitler is not racist in and of itself. It is no more wrong or evil then to play under the name Stalin, yet somehow a world full of ill-informed dolts get to pass judgment on others based on this mightily flawed premise.
Not that anything I ever say here will lend to the amalgam of useful discussion of race, but I swear I tire of the stupidity of the general public. The world is full of ignorant and misinformed individuals, yet their own ignorance of the fact that they themselves are ignorant only lends to the din over which we must shout to be heard.
As long as perception is tied to flawed and ideological teachings, the problems will continue. Facts, the actual historical recitation of actual events, is NOT ideological. Until ideology is removed form the equation we will continue to allow these uber false perceptions to manifest. As long as that is the case, we will never solve anything in this nation.
Truth must be the only consideration. Once we all agree on the truth then we can get to discussing the hows and whys. ‘Til then, it’s all just more people imparting what they THINK they know. That only lends to the confusion. The din of the ignorant often drowns out the voices of reason and fact.
Course, not me – I can yell louder then all you other dolts, so shut up and listen for once and ya might actually learn something. Then when ya open your mouth ya won’t demonstrate for the entire world that you are an uninformed idiot.
Conversely, you can continue to flap your uninformed gums – it gives me great fodder for future articles, so I’m good!
