ur mother knew everything, from how to make a perfect pie to how to make a relationship work. You’ve held onto her advice for all these years, and yet still find relationships failing. Perhaps an update on the outdated relationship tips are all it will take to turn your relationship around.
Outdated Relationship Advice: “All relationships should be 50/50″
Why it’s outdated: This particular piece of advice was once very important, and women swore by the 50/50 rule for many long decades. However, something changed that the modern woman should know and consider before following the 50/50 rule in any relationship.
Updated Relationship Advice: “All relationships should be 100/100.”
Think about the difference and see if you can’t understand why the outdated relationship advice needed a makeover. Would you really be happy with a man who “half-assed” everything?
Aside from that, women are just incapable of putting in any less than their best effort to make a relationship work. This rule can be applied to all areas of any relationship… both individuals involved should be putting in 100% effort. Scratch that-make it 110% to be safe.
Outdated Relationship Advice: “Why Buy the Cow When You Can Get the Milk for Free?”
Please, please, please tell me this advice was already let go. It’s a nice concept, and may have been true back in the 1950s. Actually, I give this same advice to my daughter but only because she is at “that age” and they don’t make chastity belts anymore.
Updated Relationship Advice: “Take it for a test drive before you buy it…”
Do I really need to explain this one?
Okay, you’re choosing between a Corvette and a beat up old Ford. As long as you wear your safety belt…wouldn’t you like to be sure you’re getting the car that will last you longer and offers optimal performance?
Outdated Relationship Advice: “Choose Men Like You Choose Chocolate… Richer is Better.”
Oh, who am I kidding… this one is still good…
Outdated Relationship Advice: “The Quickest Way to a Man’s Heart is Through His Stomach.”
This quote was proven to be a lie. A man’s stomach is only the second quickest way to his heart. Can you guess what the truly quickest route is?
Updated Relationship Advice: “The quickest way to a man’s heart is… straight through the ribcage.”
And what were you thinking?
All kidding aside now, this particular piece of relationship advice is actually not outdated. In fact, this is advice to hold onto and teach your own daughters.
With microwaves, take out/delivery, and frozen lasagnas… women are slowly losing one of our best gifts.
Now before any feminists go biting off my head, I’m not saying men shouldn’t cook too. But I am saying that every woman… every woman… should be able to cook at least one staple dish.
You know that kind of meal that makes him think of his grandma? That’s not a bad thing like you think… in fact you’ll be surprised at how wonderful it is when a woman can work a kitchen like there’s no tomorrow.
The more homemade meals you make from fresh ingredients, the healthier your diet… and the more satisfied
your appetite(s) will be. Outside of that, you know how every time you eat apple pie you think of your mom? What will your children remember you by… chocolate cake from the box?
Outdated Relationship Advice: “Sometimes it’s better to say ‘I’m sorry, I was wrong’ even if you weren’t.”
Okay, first of all-this is still mostly true but should be taken with a grain of salt. Modern women are especially prone to carry around the weight of self blame and frustration… anything to make a relationship work.
So with that in mind, the updated relationship advice is: “Sometimes it’s important to evaluate the problem and decide if it’s worth the relationship.”
There are two types of problems in a relationship. Those that should be let go, and those that shouldn’t. Abuse or cheating, for example, are not something to let go. On the other hand, even a big problem (like forgetting an anniversary or birthday) can be moved past without the need for carrying the weight of blame… just by letting it go.
