Game Background
You’re sitting at the bar, having a drink, when you hear the news on the television talk about hungry zombies, deadly aliens, and killer robots rampaging the land. Your tattoo starts to glow, and you take that as a sign to help save the world. Feeling inspired, you take a crowbar from the bar and head out on your mission.
Controls
Use arrow keys to move around.
Press A to attack. Holding and releasing A when you have enough energy will do a spin attack.
Press S to jump.
Press D when you have enough energy to do a special attack unique to each weapon.
Press P to pause the game.
Press Q to change the game’s visual quality.
Gameplay
Begin the game by selecting one of two difficulty levels: Little Girl, or Real Man. Next, select one of three stages: The Dead of Dead Gulch, Alienating Area 51, or The Age of Machines. In the first stage, you will fight zombies, in the second you will fight aliens, and in the third you will fight machines. Finally, choose a weapon. You are given a crowbar to begin with. As you complete each level, you can unlock more weapons (see Spoiler section at the end of the article to see what the unlocked weapons are). Once you have selected your weapon, the game begins.
The game progresses horizontally to the right as you defeat enemies. You cannot go further until you defeat the enemies currently on the screen. As you hit enemies, your Death Meter, which is displayed at the top-left of the screen, will be filled. When the Death Meter is filled over the first line, you can do spin attacks by holding and releasing A. When the Death Meter is filled, you can perform your special death attack by pressing D.
Your health bar is shown above the Death Meter. Throughout the game, you will see crates/boxes that you can break open to find beer, burgers, or fries. Eating these will recover health.
The music can be toggled on/off by clicking on the speaker symbol at the bottom right.
As you progress through the game, you can earn medals for achieving certain things, like completing a stage or even dying from certain enemies.
Game Tips
-Don’t worry about preserving health before fighting the boss for each stage. Before meeting the boss, you will be presented with enough health to last you until you defeat the boss.
-The enemies can hurt each other. Use this to your advantage.
Review
Armed Prophet is an entertaining action game that will keep you interested from start to finish. The story line isn’t very complicated and isn’t the most creative thing, but it has a interesting idea: having an ordinary guy at a bar save the world from zombies, aliens, and robots. The various unlockable weapons also keeps players playing to see what special attacks they can use for each weapon. The two levels of difficulty add great replay value to the game.
Armed Prophet scores a 9/10. The gameplay can be improved by making movements flow better.
