Mohican State Park is located in central Ohio along Interstate 71 between Cleveland and Columbus, OH. Mohican State Park provides over 1000 acres of land as well as a few miles of access to the Clear Fork of the Mohican River. In addition to Mohican State Park, there is additional 4000 acres of outdoor recreation land available at the adjacent Mohican-Memorial State Forest.
The campground at Mohican State Park offers over 100 camping sites with over 30 providing full hookups for RV’s. The campground is attractive, but is quite open allowing for little privacy between each site. There are 10 walk in sites for those wanting a little more seclusion. The campground provides showers, restrooms with flush toilets, game courts, and a pool. In addition to camping for tents and RV campers, Mohican State Park also offers overnight guests the choice of camper cabins, cottages, and lodge rooms. The cottages at Mohican State Park are particularly nice as they stretch in a single line along one bank of the Mohican River in a forested area. The road along the cottages is a dead end which reduces traffic and adds to the quiet setting. There is good access to the Mohican River for fishing from either the campgrounds or cottages. The lodge is located along Pleasant Hill Reservoir.
Mohican State Park is a great park for those who love to fish. From quiet fishing along the banks of the Mohican River (or from a small boat) to bigger water fishing at nearby Pleasant Hill Reservoir and other regional streams and lakes, Mohican State Park offers numerous choices for the angler. The Mohican River holds a pleasant surprise in that it is a trout stream. Other game fish in the Mohican River include bass, bluegill, crappie and others. Gold has been found in areas of the river as well. Check with the state on regulations for panning in the park and have permission from private land owners before prospecting. Pleasant Hill Reservoir holds bass, catfish and other game fish. Private businesses rent boats and provide other services.
Mohican State Park offers 13 miles of hiking trails, trails that are open to mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The adjacent Mohican-Memorial State Forest also provides a lot of room for hikers to explore with over 30 miles of trails. Hunting is permitted in the state forest as well, check with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for more information on seasons and regulations.
Mohican State Park is located to the southeast of Mansfield, OH, and is easily accessed from Interstate 71.
