I have heard so many different opinions of Rao’s in Las Vegas. Some people say it is really bad, others have said that it is excellent, and the rest say that it was just ok. So I had to check out Rao’s for myself and see what it was all about. No matter what though, Rao’s is a popular restaurant and is always very busy. Rao’s is an Italian restaurant that is located inside of Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The Rao family also has a restaurant in New York City, but prepares the same kind of food at both places. Rao’s is known for home cooked Italian meals which consist of only fresh high quality ingredients that allow their guests to have an amazing culinary experience.
The restaurant in Vegas is a replica of a 100 year old original East Harlem restaurant. On the walls hang lots of pictures of celebrities that have eaten at Rao’s. There are 2 dining rooms that consist of 10 tables each and the restaurant in all seats 200 people. In the center of the 2 rooms is a large octagon-shaped bar where you can enjoy a drink at. There are a few tables were you can get a beautiful view of the Caesers’ Garden of the Gods marble pool, these tables are always requested so they are hard to sit at. There is also an outdoor patio area where you are able to dine at also.
The waiter that we had was very knowledgeable of the history of Rao’s and the menu. When he first came to the table he explained the history to us then gave us a run down on the specials and of the menu. He also told us a few of his favorite items to eat from the menu. He was very friendly and was excellent at his job.
For appetizers you can start your meal off with selections like Shrimp Cocktail, Bruschetta, Vongole Oreganate, Prosciutto and Frutta, and a few other great items. We ordered the Fritto Misto di Mare to start off with. It was Calamari, cod fish, Shrimp and Zucchini all deep fried and served with a remoulade and marinara sauce. It was so tasty, especially the calamari.
The soups at Rao’s were to die for. They served a chilled zucchini cream soup served with crème fraiche and pan seared scallops. If you are a fan of zucchini, you must try this soup, I absolutely loved it. If not, you had choices of a Cannelloni Bean and Scarolle soup that is always on the menu and 2 other daily soup of the day selections.
For salads they offer some really great and unique sounding options. They serve Sliced Octopus, boiled potatoes, and fava beans in Citronette and Parsley Pesto. Another one consisted of steamed calamari, shrimp, mussels, lobster and crab meat topped with celery, olives and parsley. Or you could go with the oven roasted sliced eggplant rolled over Crab meat and Shrimp salad. Those are just a few of Rao’s tasty salad options.
For entrees they offered choices like Baby Argula with tomatoes and jumbo shrimp in a white wine sauce over linguine pasta, sweet Italian sausage with broccoli rabe and garlic sautéed in olive oil, Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Scarpariello, Lamb Chops with French beans, and a Filet Mignon topped with melted gorgonzola cheese and served over a carrot puree and port wine reduction. They also served a variety of different pastas with different sauce and toppings options.
I ordered the Gamberoni in Umido. This plate consisted of giant Shrimp that were served over penne noodles and topped with a lemon, butter and wine sauce. It was so good! I would highly recommend this entrée. My friend ordered the Le Polpette di Rao’s. This dish was traditional meatballs served in a tomato sauce over linguine noodles. The meatballs were some of the best meatballs I have ever had. They were so moist and full of a lot of flavor. Both of our meals were excellent and very filling. We had to ask for a to go box for both of them.
Rao’s restaurant is open every night for dinner from 5 pm-11 pm. The prices here were very reasonable for the amount of food that they serve you. Rao’s is known for having a menu that offers something for everybody’s budget. The price range is from $10 and higher.
Overall I had a great dining experience at Rao’s and I would definitely go back the next time that I am in Vegas. If you are an Italian food fan, I would highly recommend checking out Rao’s for a nice dinner in Las Vegas. I am glad I didn’t let all of the bad reviews on the food persuade me into not trying Rao’s out myself.
