I was lucky enough to purchase Adult Robitussin to Go DM, from Walgreen’s drugstore, for free. I figured this would be excellent for when I was traveling. I have had it for 3 or 4 months, and didn’t need to use it.
We came on vacation to the Kissimmee/Orlando area and guess what, after going into the pool and swimming in water of 87 degrees, and then going back to our apartment which was 74 degrees, I started with a sore throat, cough, and finally a cold. I wanted to treat it before going home, so I checked in my bag, that contains itch cream, cream for cuts, tide to go, and I found my Robitussin Cough & Chest Congestion DM, To Go.
I saw on the box that there were 2 single dose packs. Well it was Saturday and we were returning home on the Sunday, so I figured this would be just perfect. It states that it is non-drowsy and relieves cough and chest congestion/mucus.
I opened the top of the box and there were 2 sealed packages. I looked at the top of one and it had a tear line. I dried to open it but it just wouldn’t budge. I didn’t have any scissors in my timeshare, so used a steak knife, across the line. I then had a hard plastic clear tube with what looked like a ring near the top, and a twist off cap. The color of the liquid was red.
Reading the instructions on the side of the box, after removing it from the package:
‘Twist off cap.
Place spoon end of container in mouth.
Squeeze firmly to deliver medication.’
This was very easy to do, and not only did it have the directions, but it also had pictures showing you how to use the cough medication.
By ensuring all the cough medicine came out of the single dose pack, I was getting the recommended 10 ml. I then disposed of the outer wrapping and the plastic tube/spoon, and didn’t have to worry about measuring, and spilling the cough medicine.
It tasted exactly the same as the Robitussin that I keep in the house. It helped to ease the tightness and sore throat that I had. With one dose it really didn’t help my cough, but that normally takes a couple of days or more.
On the Sunday morning, when we got up, I took the second measured dose of Adult Robitussin To Go. This really helped me with the 2 hour drive, back home, from the Kissimmee/Orlando area.
Robitussin To Go is expensive if you are going to use it for several days. The box containing 10 doses runs about $8, compared to buying a bottle. However, this is a great product for the odd occasion you might need it.
This product is for ages 12 and over. It is alcohol-free, which I like. It contains Dextromethorphan HBr, which is a cough suppressant and Guafensin an expectorant.
With all medications you should consult a doctor before using it, or if the cough continues for any length of time. You should not use it if you are taking a MAOI drug. Check the side of the box for other warnings.
