There are lots of books and articles about Christian living out there, more of them than you can even begin to count, but which ones are share the right information? Those of us who attend church have heard sermons about how we ought to behave, and live, then we leave church and were right back where we started. We wonder how were supposed to live Godly lives when were sinning constantly, and we may even start doubting the authenticity of our Christian experience.
Well if your aware that your sinning a lot, and it bothers you, that is a good thing because that is a sign that the Holy Spirit is living within you, your saved. Those without Christ don’t care about whether or not they sin, their too busy enjoying themselves to consider their lost condition. We are all human beings, we are fallible, we sin due to those simple facts, but we don’t have to let the devil drag us down and steal our joy.
Let’s talk about Salvation shall we, it is where we start our walk with the Lord, as little babies in the faith who don’t know squat about the Christian life, but over time you learn as you attend church, and Bible studies. Salvation is a free gift from God that happens instantaneously when a lawbreaker repents, confesses, and receives their pardon from the Lord. Then there is Sanctification that takes a lifetime to accomplish. This is simply God molding us, and making us into the likeness of his Son, as we seek to follow Christ.
Before one can come to Salvation they need to be exposed to the Law of God that shows them that they have screwed up, and are under the wrath of God because of it. Then they are able to see why they need to be Born-Again, and it makes sense to them, and they are more apt to receive Christ into their lives.
The Apostle Paul tells us that the Law show us that we have broken it, or sinned, but we will use the term broken, and law breaker instead of sinner. Since we have all broken God’s law, we all have to answer for breaking it, and we are all guilty of breaking it, so what choice does God have but to punish all those who have broken, or violated his law? Because God is HOLY and RIGHTEOUS he must by his very nature punish all who have broken his law, otherwise he would be a lair, and a fraud. Just like when a person breaks mans law there is a price to be paid, God us the same way, there is a price to pay for breaking his law.
The cool thing is, is that God himself came down in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, allowed himself to take our punishment on the cross, with he broken body and shed blood he purchased a pardon for each of us, which is so awesome! God paid the price for our breaking his law, and he did all because of his love for each of us, eh does not want anyone to go to Hell.
So a person comes to faith in Christ, they are new believers, and wondering what to do next. Well now they should be discipled, grounded in their faith, and taught the Word of God. This helps them to mature in the faith, and become strong Christians who are able to share their experience with others.
A few years ago I sat through a conference that changed my view of Christianity dramatically, and my life. Let me share the truths I learned, it has really helped me along the way in my life. They call it the “Grace Life” or the “Exchanged Life”, this information it revolutionized my Christian life, and lifted a weight off of my shoulders that you would not believe.
First thing is we must realize that we cannot live a Christian life, yes I said we CANNOT live a Christian life!
Well, at least not by ourselves we can’t, you see, we must allow Christ to live His life in us, and through us everyday if we are to live the type of life that Christ desires for us to live. This requires an act of our will, we must let him drive the bus, so to speak. If we cannot live a Christian life on our own, because we are fallible human beings.
The Bible tells us that our own righteousness, is as a pile of dirty, smelly rags, a terrible stench in the nose of a Holy God. Our own works can never make us right with God, nor earn us a better ranking with him. Salvation is by God’s Grace through an act of our Faith in finished work of Christ on the Cross.
We see in the book of Galatians where the people we fooled into reverting to a system of works unto salvation, and the Apostle writes to them and rebukes them saying “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?
Paul had them all straightened out and on the right path, and as soon as he was gone, some others came in and fooled the people into practicing a false system based on works, instead of faith life they were taught. How may well meaning church people today are like the Galatians? Still trying to do work that was already done for them? Paul say’s here in essence were you saved by trying to keep the law that you break constantly (works), or by faith in the message of the cross of Christ that Paul had clearly preached unto them.
How many people today are trying to keep the law, in other words they are trying to do what is right, but if they looked close enough at themselves they would see how they can’t, and don’t. Instead we are shown that salvation and the Christian life are based of faith (trust), not by trying to keep the law.
Friends WE CAN’T KEEP THE LAW! WE DON’T KEEP THE LAW!
Christ came and fulfilled the requirements of God’s law on our behalf because God knew we could never do it, and as a result would be lost, and die in our sin. Christian brother STOP TRYING! and start ALLOWING Christ to live his life in you and through you, it’s the only way to truly live the Christian life. That’s were the marvelous grace of God comes in, where we can’t do it for ourselves, we have to ask God to do it for us. Without the life of Christ living in you, and through you everyday, because if we are trying to live our own lives, instead of him living his life though us, we are going to find ourselves in spiritual turmoil, and feeling miserable.
How do we accomplish this, well we must come to a place of total surrender to Christ. This is by far the most difficult thing to go through because you really have to fight with yourself over this one, I’ll explain further. Total surrender is basically giving all to God, everything you are, everything you have, because it all belongs to him anyway. The hard part that I still wrestle with is the part where you give up all my rights to yourself, because there are personal areas that I still struggle with personally that I need to address.
When I got this new lady friend I made sure that I gave God total control of my sex drive, and sex organs so that I did not end up in bed with her, and so far a year later it has not been a big issue. Again God’s grace is sufficient, and there for the asking. When my baby girl went to be with the Lord in 2001, I asked God for extra grace then and he gave it, no problem. So God is faithful to his children, and waiting to come to our aid if we will ask and believe as his Word say’s too.
It is possible for a born-again Christian to walk in the flesh, instead of walking in the spirit, we see it all the time. If we will make a practice out of surrendering ourselves to God every day, we would then see a dramatic difference in our lives.
Total Surrender is a painful and difficult road to travel, but it will draw a believer closer to God. It is about giving up control of our lives, and letting God control them, that is tough stuff. We all want control of our own lives, we all have hopes and dreams we want to accomplish in this life, but God may have other plans for us, and we tend to want to fight him for control.
Letting Go! Laying your life at the cross and saying, here I am Lord, take me and use me as you will. Everything I am and ever will be, everything I have is yours Lord, I acknowledge that you own it all anyway. Giving up your rights to yourself, and giving God the control over everything is an act of our will. We must make the conscious decision to give God total control over our lives, he longs for us to make that choice to totally surrender to him.
I hope this article has helped you, God Bless You!
