The cupcakes are gone, your trash is full of wrapping paper and your migraine from the birthday party chaos is slowly subsiding. After you’ve cleaned up the mess and let your child enjoy his toys, its time to write thank you notes. Okay, not literally, you can wait a few days to write them, but you should mail thank you notes promptly. Thank you notes show appreciation and gratitude. Sometimes it can be tricky to know what to write on thank you notes, especially if you are writing it for your child. Here are some sample thank you notes for kids birthday gifts and parties.
These samples are for thank you notes for kids who are unable to write. If your child is able to write a thank you note, by all means let him/her do the work! (That is, with your help of course if necessary.)
Sample Birthday Thank You Note Wording #1:
If you are writing a note to your friend Felicia, who’s son came to the party and brought a gift, here’s a sample note:
Dear Felicia and Marcus,
Thank you so much for the play-doh set for Matthew. He’s already played with it once and really likes it, especially the part where you make spaghetti. It’s a fantastic gift and I know he’ll get lots of use out of it. We should meet sometime for a play-doh playdate, I know Matthew would love that. Thanks so much for coming to the party! See you next week at music class!
Sincerely,
(Your Name) and (Your Childs Name)

Dear Clark Family,
Thank you very much for the Mr. Potato Head for Azariah. He loves it! I know he will play with it a lot. It’s quite amusing to see what type of faces he can come up with. It also makes a cute decoration on his bookshelf. We were so happy you were able to make it to the party, it meant a lot to us. I am so thank you that Azariah has such good friends as y’all. Have a great week!
Sincerely, Anne and Azariah

Dear Aunt Margie and Uncle Tom,
Thank you so much for the doll for Emily. She is very proud of her new baby! She loves playing with her and insisted on bringing her to the park yesterday. She likes to rock her, dress her, and has even tried to feed her. She calls her “baby”. I know she’ll enjoy playing with her over the years. Thank you very much! We are looking forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving.
Love, Mark, Jessica and Emily

Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
Kendra absolutely loves the tea set you sent her! It was such a nice gift for her 3rd birthday. She loves playing with it and had a pretend tea-party with some friends yesterday. It’s a very thoughtful gift – thank you!
I am so blessed to have such generous grandparents as you. We hope to see you sometime next month. You are always welcome to come visit us over here as well. Kendra would love to “play tea” with you.
Thanks again for the fabulous gift! Sincerely, Kathy and Kendra

Dear Jennifer,
Thank you very much for the gift certificate to the children’s museum. It is such a creative and fun gift! We are looking forward to taking Braden next month. I know he will enjoy it. Also, thank you for cute and adorable outfit you got him. He wore it yesterday, and he looked like such a little man! I will e-mail you a picture. You are a wonderful Aunt and Jack and I are so grateful to have you in our lives. Thanks again for the terrific gift!
Sincerely, Sara, Jack and Braden
This are just five sample birthday thankyou notes to refer to. Another excellent (but not necessary) idea is to include some of your child’s artwork and/or a small photo of the child. (This is perfect for relatives such as aunts/uncles, Grandparents, etc.)
Happy Thank You Note Writing!
